Among other hesitations I have about a HT, I am not sure I'd be a good candidate because of the necessary post-op recovery process. Many of the post-op comments indicate that the scar is still visible for many weeks afterwards and that they have to wear a hat for up to 2 months (!). I am in a professional line of work with lots of in-person contact with my own employees and various clients, etc. I cannot afford to a) be out of work for weeks on end or b) have anything look "off" about my appearance when I do go back to work (I certainly can't wear a hat). Is this realistic? I am a NW 6 and had an earlier recomendation from Dr. Bernstein for 2,800 grafts. Thanks! (This is a great resource and thanks to Bill and all the great posters!)

Dewayne- looking great! Really natural and very nice coverage. Good for you. I'm still scared to to take the plunge (might be more willing if I were a NW 4 where I'd expect to see better results like yours). As a NW 6 (ugh) with a so-so donor area (according to Dr. Bernstein), I'm very hesitant.

Mine would be a "fresh head" situation (great expression, BTW)

Be sure to do a search on this forum for Bosley (and MHR) and you'll find plenty to scare you away from them. Many posters have commented on their bad experiences with Bosley. Take your time on this forum and ask the many knowledgeable members lots of questions BEFORE you do anything.

I've been taking Propecia for about 2 years. This stuff is getting really expensive- $75 a month. Last time I checked there wasn't a generic available. Is this still correct? (Not 100% sure it is helping but I'm afraid to stop taking it and find out that my hair loss accelerates further.)

ccex- how long is the recovery period realistically? Meaning- how many days/weeks post-op before you can walk around without a hat and no one would notice a thing? I don't have a job where I can where a hat at work...

ccex- thanks for your reply. To clarify, when I say I'm chicken, I'm not talking about the surgery itself. I'm not afraid of the procedure. I'm afraid that 1) the results will be disappointing. 2) the scar will be noticeable if I keep my hair short (as I like to do), 3) the recovery time will be long and I won't be able to "hide" the procedure from coworkers, neighbors, etc. I'm not someone who would be comfortable publicly proclaiming his HT to the broader world. FYI- I'm a NW 6 (ugh...). Although Dr. B. thought I'd have pretty good results with about 2,800 grafts.

I saw the same photo in the Delta mag. Dr. Bernstein is repeatedly named as the top hair transplant doc in NYC in New Yorker (or is it New York?) magazine. I'm always surprised that his name doesn't come up in these posts more often (vs. Feller, True, etc.). I had a consult with him almost 2 years ago and was very impressed. Still too chicken to do anything though...

Drs. Hasson & Wong continually get great reviews on this site and seem to be the masters when it comes to crown work (I'm a Norwood 6 and don't want to get a HT if I can't improve the large bald spot on my crown). Can any recent patients confirm how much they charge per graft? Thanks.

I have a large bald area in the crown (top/back) with more hair in the front (but still thinning with a high hairline). I am concerned that a HT in my case will show significant improvements in the front but I'll still have a large bald spot on top/back. In some ways this could be worse. Any experience with this? (I would be OK with noticeable improvement in the crown without full coverage.) Here's an example of my concern- Sen. Joe Biden. He looks like he's had a HT (if you compare now to old photos) and looks pretty good in front. But when his head is tipped forward, the top and back are quite sparse compared to the thickness of the front... that does not look natural. I would think a U.S. senator could afford the best procedures so this is concerning me. Gorpy, Thanks for your reply. I'm trying to be realistic. I would be happy with good frontal coverage and a "gently thinning" look on top vs. the void I'm quickly developing. I just had a consultation with Dr. Robert Bernstein in NY and he recommended 2800 grafts in my case (he said I was a Norwood 6). Unfortunately I didn't think to ask the specific question about the crown until after I left his office (too many questions!). Hence my post... I'm looking at attending an open house at Dr. Bernstein's office where I'll be sure to ask this question. I went to see Dr. Bernstein based on this forum. His practice is expensive and if I decide to proceed, it will be a real strech financially but I'm not taking a chance. I may still see one more Dr. just for comparison (perhaps Dr. True) but I was very impressed with Dr. Bernstein. Thanks to the many posters who provided invaluable information (and thanks Pat for creating this resource). Joey G

But I also have a large bald spot on top (like a "yarmulke"). I don't want to do a HT if it looks good in the front but I still have a bald spot on top. (A much smaller one I'd be OK with.) I am very grateful I found this site and its many informative and gracious posters. I am seriously considering HT and live in central CT. The first surgeon I found in the area is Dr. Scott Boden, who is with MHR. I quickly found many negative experiences with MHR on this site and decided I need to broaden my search. I want to find the best surgeon I can and would imagine that there must be very good surgeons somewhere in the NY-Boston area. Any recommendations would be most appreciated. J
