    Happy 3 months!

I'm pleased with the progress I've made so far. From what I've read on other posts, the growth between month 3 and month 6 is very exciting to watch. Donor area still looks fine, but I'm expecting that to heal more in the coming months.

For what it's worth, as I get a lot of questions about this, I'm using 5% minoxidil and I'm not taking finasteride.

Any reason you're not taking fin considering your age and aggressive hairloss pattern?

I'm in the same boat as you were in the beginning. I am considering Dr Knudsen in Sydney, he quoted 1000 grafts and everyone is telling me to go overseas and drop Australia.

Their website has almost no good photos so it's so hard to know what to expect.

By any chance, do you know how similar the results Dr V produces are to Dr Knudsen?

I'd say Knudsen is more conservative than Vikram and wouldn't use him personally.

There's a good surgeon working for Gro clinics in QLD called Dr Ruk

Hey all. its been over a year now since I got the transplant. Really happy with the results. The texture is still a bit wiry and the hair is a bit darker than the native hair but I'm hoping that resolves over the next few years as the hairs gradually fall out and grow back. 247103205_1682345071962622_8945034899959559274_n.thumb.jpg.9d383f4bd0ee3dc5e0ca050710b0c0bb.jpg

I found the same with mine, certainly darker and more wiry, hopefully that goes away but it's probably unlikely

Hey mate, great write up, and great results so far. Congratulations!

I'm also in melbs, my story sounds like yours. Very extensive family history of loss on both sides, and I'm a bit hesitant about going overseas.

I didn't know we had many reputable surgeons on aus, but Vikram seems like he pumps out some solid procedures.

    Happy growing :)

Check out mine if you haven't already

Nic your results look excellent. However none of the credit is due to Vikram. It's due to your hair quality being wavy/curly, the color of you hair contrasting to your skin pigmentation and the use of meds. No expert hair transplant surgeon would state that doubles are seen in nature. That's just another of his long list of lies going back to his convicted fraud case in New Zealand. Your results look excellent as I've said. 👍

I agree that my hair characteristics are more than favourable but also really like the actual hairline design and micro-irregularities that he's put into the hairline design. Yes, the doubles are an outright mistake and as I said he's not world class but I think he's probably as good as it gets in Australia alongside Dr Ruk from Gro Clinics. We aren't spoiled for choice here that's for sure

As I have said previously, do not even consider going to ANY surgeon in Australia!! They do not have the body of work under their belts and the one's who do are terrible! I've had conversations and consultations with many over the past 35 years. Dr Vic and Knudsen put doubles in the frontal hairline and justify this as 'occurring in nature!' Rubbish. If you even just compare any 'true' work that they have done here (and the prices they are asking) to other clinics overseas you will soon realise that it's like night and day. The skill set just doesn't exist in Australia. Look at Eugenix and recommended surgeons from this forum. There are no short cuts with surgery. All the best.

I believe your original quote was that the OP's results are as good as it gets which was what I was referring to because that's clearly not true- look at my results which are far better.

Your points are absolutely valid regarding the quality of surgeons vs price here in Australia

    Dr. Turan

Probably one of the most reliable up and coming clinics that are not that known. I know Rolandis and Matt Dominance did reviews/interviews on this clinic. This was the clinic I was actually supposed to originally do my transplant with but was a waiting list and wanted to get it done sooner, so I made the huge mistake and regret going to Cinik instead.

Dr. Turan see's one patient a day and performs the surgery himself.

Dr Gur works out of Fuecap as well. He does stick and place

NDAustralia your results from Dr Vikram show that it is possible to get a good transplant in Australia.

I am glad that I have looked into a number of options in Australia, not just overseas. I totally appreciate the warnings about the price/quality in Australia vs. overseas options - and I am taking that into account before making any final decision.

At this point, I am keen on finding a surgeon in Australia who has produced good work. I am hoping to see Dr Rukshan Senanayake in Brisbane: https://www.instagram.com/dr_ruk/?hl=en

If anyone has feedback on him, or Gro clinics, I would appreciate it.

Dr Ruk is fantastic. I'd consider going to him myself!

This post for anyone even just considering a hair transplant in Australia says it all. This is as good as it gets. What gets my back up is when they operate on young guys. Because statistically the younger you have surgery the least satisfied you will be with the outcome. Currently 7/10 people who have a hair transplant are dissatisfied or left disfigured as a result. That means that only 30% of people 'in general' who have surgery are satisfied. Remember this when you do your research. More importantly do your research. Get onto these forums for at least a year and see what goes on. See who has good outcomes. See who has bad outcomes and ask yourself why? And one year is only the journey of one transplant (from post op to 12 months). After 36 years you start to get a much greater understanding of what really is going on.

@Rui stay the course and please keep asking questions (there is no such thing as a wrong or bad question in this industry). Please give your surgery a full 12 months before assessing the results. Wishing you all the best brother.

It's not really the best it can get though is it? My results clearly show you can get a better result in Australia.

I'm not saying they are world class but to say these pics are the best it gets is incorrect.

    There are no quality clinics in Australia that would make the cut. The closest is Knudsen and until recently this was posted on his website as a cherry picked result (and for 651 grafts and the price you have to question why);

    This poster uploaded more examples, all exhibiting the same issues with density;

Sadly I agree. I don't believe this will get you the density you would need to match with the native areas behind it. I'd consider looking into a 2nd surgery in the future (at 12 months) preferably with another clinic once the results can be assessed.

I went with Dr Jayaprakash from the Melbourne clinic (Knudsen) you can check out my results if you'd like, I'm very happy.

  11. Ok!

A couple of days shy of 12 months but I remembered today and would probably forget about it and not post if I didn't right now.

    The particulars:

    2600 grafts FUT

    Finasteride 1mg 3x a week (sometimes 4 if I remember on a Saturday afternoon).

Minoxidil 5% liquid once a day (approx 1.5ml per application).

    Notes:

Not really Any noticeable change from months 9-12 except for the hair looking and feeling more like native hair.

I've had my 12 month check-up with Dr Vikram. He said he's very pleased with the result and so am I. As far as future planning, he suggests FUE next time should I get another HT (quite likely).

His suggested plan of attack based on my own opinions of my results are to do a small 500-700 graft procedure to soften the hairline with some better FUE grafts rather than the thick ones you get from an FUT and also lower it a tiny bit (my request, he doesn't believe it needs to be lower). We would also trial 100-200 grafts in the FUT scar to see what it looks like and then potentially I could wear my hair below a #4 without it being noticeable.

After that I am intending to get another 2000+ graft procedure to fill the midscalp and crown but not for a few years. I want to see the full extent of medication as I've been using finasteride for about 1.5 years and minoxidil for less than a year. I'm also only 32 so I'd like to save some grafts for later, especially since I'm reasonably content with my appearance for now.

Lastly for anyone sitting on the fence about getting a HT:

I can't stress this enough but do everything you can to stabilize your hair loss before you get a HT

Secondly and most importantly, do your research! That means do more than ask a few questions about which clinic is better for your budget in an online forum. Watch videos, read articles and learn what good hair restoration is first before you look at clinics.

It has changed my life, completely turned my confidence and self worth around.

Enjoy the pictures and as always, any comments or critiques are welcome.

    Cheers!

Super happy yes. I shave it to a no guard at back and sides once a week and my GF has not said a thing, and I had 4100 FUE grafts removed over two FUE there so I am convinced it is scar less at least to the eyes of the others.

As for the front/hairline, growing fine no issues at all. I shave the rest of my head to a 9 mm guard as it looks better while still limiting the amount of topical hair meds required to maintain. The difference in density with native hair is barely noticeable at that length, but not so if I cut shorter

Hi mate, I'm in Australia and obviously Thailand is quite close to me rather than having to travel to europe so I'm interested in this clinic.

Feel free to PM me if you're more comfortable but what approx cost is it per graft at this clinic? Work looks very good!

  13. Here we are at 9 months post op from my 2600 graft FUT procedure with Dr Vikram Jayaprakash at The Knusden Clinic in Melbourne, Australia.

    The usual:

    Finasteride 1mg 3x per week.
Minoxidil 5% (Currently liquid) once, sometimes twice a day.
Usually good diet, lots of exercise.

    Things to note this month:

It may not seem much different from my 8 month update but I feel like my transplanted hair has absolutely started feeling more like my native.

Individual hair follicles are definitely thickening up every week.

I can't see it changing much more from here, I might skip the next few months until the 12 month mark but who knows.

As always, any comments, critiques or questions are more than welcome!

I appreciate your input but disagree on this one.

I've never had a widows peak hairline, even when receeding it was fairly uniform. If anything I'd keep the same design but lower it a touch and potentially get some temple work done.
