11 Month and Final update
Tomorrow I turn 29, almost a full year since my HT and probably about 3 years since hair became life's greatest problem. So what better gift to myself than to give my final update and flip this page at least for a little while and focus on developing other things in my life.
I don't see Dr. Rahal until late September to have my final check and discuss the result; see if any additional work should be planned in the near future and most important for me is to have him assess my donor after surgery and hopefully get a good estimate of what I have to work with in the future.
I am very fortunate that the pandemic took some weight off of my recovery as Canada was under lockdown for most of sep 2020 to early 2021 and I had a whole 8 months in-between having any real obligations to see anyone in person. That being said, I don't have any "shame" having done the procedure, thats none-sense, anyone in our place would do this as well and I remain open to talk about it when it is brought up as it ends up helping others more than it does falsely protecting my ego.
To any first timers considering surgery soon, the first 4-5 months will be tough. You will shed, you will likely have some shock loss, you will look worse than you started, and even though I believed I was very prepared for the recovery after doing my research, it was still a daily battle of the mind. There were periods during the ugly duckling phase that I questioned my decision in getting a transplant and other times I questioned whether Rahal's clinic were able to deliver results I wanted. I replayed the process of the surgery and my recovery in my head over and over to figure if something had gone wrong. I can't stress enough that if you don't choose a clinic you're absolutely sure of, this period post surgery will be hell and likely over time it won't do much to bring you back the confidence that you're striving for. Always aim to get it right the first time, current hair transplant procedures are a delicate numbers game. Its my opinion that its absolutely crucial that you only go through with this surgery if:
- You have the financial ability to go to your top picks of surgeon
- You have consulted with multiple doctors (in person if possible) to understand if you are a candidate
- You have exhausted all options with a prevention regimen ** . For me prevention comes first (will make a separate post to talk about prevention)
- You have really truly understood the expectations of surgery, really understanding what the 'illusion of density' entails. My Final results:
It feels amazing to have finally come to this point and be able to reflect on the result positively. I feel the result is very natural and a good overall density. I believe Dr. Rahal did a good job transplanting up until my native hairs and fortunately I didn't suffer any shock loss in behind the recipient. In certain situations, if I'm going out or I know i'll be exposed to a lot of light I'll put in some toppik to make it look fuller, but otherwise for the most part I leave it the way it is. I often wash my hair and use a blowdryer on a cool setting to style it and I'm on my way. I should mention that it took sometime for the transplanted hairs to begin to behave like the rest of my hair, and that will also likely improve with a little more time. I'm very happy with the flow in my hairline as it really matches the style I've had forever and that speaks volumes on Dr. Rahal's artistry and ability to recreate a natural look. I'll try to find a starting photo and I'll make a before and after post as well to highlight the difference.
Amazing final results bro. Top notch hair, truly looks like you've had a perfect hair line your whole life. This is possibly Dr. Rahal's best result for your norwood level. Congrats!

This is why I am emphatic about having one's donor zone microscopically examined because if the donor hair appears to be DHT receptive, that hair can be lost in the future.
How does the microscope view confirm this?

That's a really awesome result, and it came in early wow!
I'm nowhere near that level of growth compared to your 2.5 months. Very impressive early growth.

The same thing (DHT) that causes hair loss in other areas. He's simply getting closer to realizing his final NW7 pattern. All the hairs above that spot will eventually go as well.
It looks like something is rubbing that area away

You've spoken to a lot of hair restoration surgeons, but what have they said about the balding spot below your vertex? What's causing that?
-
How many grafts was this?
Looks great man congrats on your results... completely different looking man altogether now.
-
What clinic did you go to?
Are you male or female?
How many grafts, and was it FUE, FUT?

Patient has some terrific hair. Nice coverage on crown, wicked strong donor and nice thick texture hairs. After this surgery he has beaten MPB.

I sent some mails, but no answer 😐
Call them... be persistent. You paid a lot of money and should be persistent in your follow up. You deserve to hear back.

Awesome result, I can't make out the FUT scar, is it in frame in the picture of his donor area?
Patient must look 20 years younger!

I'd be shocked if he actually paid. People who pay, never speak about their surgery or talk about the clinic in any promotional way. Like Machine Gun Kelly, Elon Musk, Steve Carrell.
I've often wondered about Steve Carrell...

I still can't make up my mind

Really strong update and cute doggo.
Glad to see how much it has grown in. There's a noticeable difference from month 8 to month 10. Are you going to see Dr. Wong to ask about his opinion on the result?

Growing up I always thought your hair went grey before you lost it.. life showed me otherwise.
Does anyone have a good source for notes on the things David Sinclair talks about? Podcastnotes.org does a pretty good job but they charge a subscription, might be worth it anyway to get info from the likes of him and Dr. Rhonda Patrick who I found stays very current on everything health
Rhonda got me eating broccolli sprouts long before sulfurophane got hot as a hair growth remedy

Thanks so much, unfortunately I think only Bicer is in turkey - which is where I already have a visa to go to in the next two months. I looked at BICER and its priced around 3500 euro which is too much considering I think the lower amount of grafts compared to other clinics. This is why it becomes frustrating.
Look at how you are feeling about the results of your first surgery. You titled your post "I'm scared".
Imagine if you had paid twice as much and got twice as much hair in the final result.
It is way more expensive to lose good donor hairs, no amount of future earnings will bring those back.

Y would he go on fin now when he lost most his hair .. don’t u think he would of went that route 5-10 years ago ? If he wanted to go on meds .
A good point to make if we had time machines.

No point in going on finasteride . He barely has any hair left to save ..
That's not true and is bad advice. Based on OPs before pic, he may benefit a lot from fin, min and derma rolling.
Also the transplanted hair can be affected by DHT and the medications should be considered for post op patients. Also OP is 7.5 months into his post op results and there is more hair still growing in, still four or more months before we see his final results. You haven't seen his donor area either.
We all know that a 1,700 euro surgery of 3,800 grafts is crazy cheap and unlikely to lead to a top result but don't let that interfere with giving OP the best advice possible. He should be discouraged from returning to an unknown hair mill as John posted. His remaining donor hair should be managed by a trusted clinic, but he also needs to consider getting on fin, min and other treatments. All is not lost here.

Damn the difference a month makes! Those hairs are gonna start to grow like wildfire now!
-
You're at the really exciting time now
-
This is going to be awesome... looking forward to seeing it come in over the next few weeks.
Was this a two day procedure to get to over 5,000 grafts?
-
Given the itchy scalp you may want to see a dermatologist
