Yea I did, but not as much.

From my experience so far, it just seems to have increased the coarseness and growth rate of hair in areas that I already had hair, for the most part.

Did the hair on your head become thicker or longer? What were the positive effects and also what dosage did you start at? Thanks

I would say that it improved the hair quality everywhere but the most noticeable difference for me is crown because it was thinning the most. My mid scalp also got better.

In short every hair looks far better than before.

I can’t tell the difference between 2.5mg and 5mg because i only took 2.5 for a short period of time and then upped the dose because the data shows 5mg is the best dose for regrowth.

And i shedded a lot for 2 months and i still shed miniaturised hair when i wash my head but it’s far less than before.

Thanks for the response. I’m thinking about starting oral minoxidil at 1.25 and then going from there. Do you think I’ll see a difference from that dose? I think @Melvin- Moderator might have said it’s equivalent or better than 5%foam

I can tell you from personal experience that I did not get charged anywhere near these fees when I was first prescribed the medication. I can understand them charging you a fee for the doctor consultation, but a $100 fee on top of that for writing the prescription feels inappropriate to me.

Results for me were great, hair was healthier and thicker.

That’s great to hear. Was it all hair that was healthy overall? What was the dosage and was there any side effects? Thanks

I've been doing the same recently. My regular PCP and derm were not comfortable prescribing it. I searched for nearby HT or dermatology clinics and sent out emails/called in asking if they have experience prescribing low-dose oral minoxidil for hair loss. A couple of them said yes. I ended up getting a prescription from the HT clinic, but they charge a fee. Been on 1.25mg/day for a month now. I have an appointment with a derm clinic this week who is covered by my insurance, and I'm hoping I can rely on them to prescribe it to me.

If I were you I'd at least contact doctor's office to see if they have any experience with this before scheduling an appointment.

Have you noticed any improvement? Any side effects? Do you take anything else with it?

I’m a couple days shy of day 90.

it’s coming along unbelievably well. The amount of growth I’m seeing is remarkable. Redness is gone and more new hair is coming through every day.

the pic I attached is from a week ago. I’m now no longer buzzing it, and will be allowing it to grow from here on out.

I expect this to look insane by 6 months.

Yeah, I would only start getting seriously concerned if it was more than 2 weeks. Great to hear your plans. Keep us updated! I want to see photo proof of your pills!

Have you noticed any enhancements from fin? I’ve been debating about trying it and have it on hand, just wonder if it helps improve or Make hair feel better(if that’s makes sense)

    Hi,

I was on 5mg oral for about 12 months and am now on 10mg oral. Haven't noticed any side effects. Hope that helps.

I’m interested in trying oral minoxidil. Have you seen noticeable improvements? Also can anyone help direct me to a reputable place to buy oral minoxidil online? I’m in the u.s.

    thanks in advance

Dredd, in your case medicines were mandatory because your androgenetic alopecia was miniaturizing also the donor area (it is a condition called DUPA and is more common than people think) and dr. Pekiner told you that many times. Not only you did not take Finasteride and Minoxidil as prescribed, you even started minoxidil on and off, that is worse than not taking it at all.

You said you got Finasteride driven depression after 2 weeks of usage, which looks rather unlikely. You said you got side effects from Minoxidil and even from Xpecia that is a mild Saw Palmetto supplement.
Dr. Pekiner also suspects you did not follow post surgery instructions, because you always behaved like you did not care, probably you were thinking that you just had to pay the money to the surgeon and get the results without being annoyed by medicines and post operative care. But the first month after the operation is the most important one.

It is like a fat man not following post operative instructions after a liposuction and starting to eat pies and donuts and lift heavy weights the day after. Surgery doesn't work this way, you must follow and trust doctor instruction and advices, it is not like "this is your money doc, now I want the problem solved".

At the end we have some suspects but we don't know exactly what happened, while you look so sure it was all dr. Pekiner's failure and like 2 weeks ago you started to feel the urge to inform the whole world.

Please don't worry about this Lixin. I also invite other dr. Pekiner's future patient not to fall prey of a free shooter only interested in destroying the clinic reputation. I will start posting all the clinic good cases in this forum as well, I just need a little time. Please check all the surgeries before and after both of Dredd's operations and you will see 3 perfect frontal dense packs and 1 norwood 6 reconstruction in 2 steps.

As I specified before, this case was not treated at an extreme density of more than 50 grafts per cm2, which is often called super dense pack. It was a "classic" high density of around 50 grafts per cm2.

DHI method, that is basically a marketing term coined for incisions and implantations via implanter pens, shares the same philosophy of the stick and place technique used by dr. Pekiner, that is placing the graft immediately after opening the channel. Having said that, there are many other clinics, using different techniques, like lateral slit with custom blade made incisions, or placers instead of implanters, that can achieve great density all the same.

What would be considered super dense packing? Anything greater than 50cm2?

    Thanks Russ!

This was done with forceps. I think both methods are good in the hands of the right highly skilled doctor and team. One doctor and team might be able to achieve better density with the implanter where another might feel more comfortable and be able to achieve high density with forceps. We employ both methods at our clinic. The doctor and team must work in concert to achieve this type of high density. If the doctor doesn't possess the rare skill to dense pack like this, the insertion method may be irrelevant. The converse may also be true. In my opinion, if the doctor or clinic you choose consistently produces results like this, it doesn't matter how they do it as long as they just do it 😉

Thank you for her informative reply! Does h and w believe that someone getting a transplant should be on finasteride prior to the surgery to prevent shock loss or does it vary by individual? I also see that h&w has a clinic in Seattle? That would be perfect Since I’m close to the Seattle area

There are online services that will offer you a prescription and a consult but in the U.S. you do need a prescription.

Don't stress the side effects without even trying the drug. You won't know if you have any issues with it unless you try. If you have side effects, stop taking it. Simple.

You might experience some initial shed as the drug starts to work, but that is typically part of the process. Thinner, fine hairs will shed and be replaced by thicker hair. Don't make the same mistake so many people do where they start on the drug, lose their cool when they start to shed, then freak out and quit before giving it a chance to work. Those people will just continue losing hair in the long run. I have a friend who had a more severely thinned version of your pattern and I told him to start fin and minox about a year ago. He sent me pictures the other day and has had a very nice improvement from drugs alone, but he stuck with it.

There's a lot of debate on name brand over generic. I personally use generic because the difference in cost is insane, but if you can afford the brand name that may be the slightly better option. Generics have the same active ingredient but slightly different formulations for inactive ingredients, so some people won't respond as well to certain formulations as they do to others. I would say this varies by individual.

How long does it normally take to see the positive effects from it? If you don’t mind answering, how long have be been on it?

  11. 54 minutes ago, Mycroft said:

Yes. It will strengthen native hair and reduce the risk of shock loss. Many surgeons recommend starting on it at least twelve months before any surgery. The Finasteride might also thicken your hair and help fill in those areas on top of your head where the hair is thinning but not gone.

I take mine in the morning. Just do whatever is easier for you.

Thank you for your reply. Does name brand matter or generic okay? Also did you start on 1mg right away? I’m just asking cause I was recommended to start on .5mg and then work my way up to 1. Just wanting to get your thoughts on it. That’s awesome if it can thicken one’s hair, my biggest worry has been that finasteride makes hairloss worse for some reason. I only have a thinning hairline and no bald spots but I guess my fear is that I’ll look worse after taking it than before(if that’s makes sense)

  12. 11 minutes ago, Mycroft said:

Well, firstly six months isn't really a great enough timeline to see results on Minoxidil. Second, if you're not on Finasteride or a similar DHT blocker you're making a big mistake. You're increasing the risk of shock loss, almost guaranteeing more future loss, and ignoring an option that might make you reconsider having a transplant at all.

So it’s best to take/try finasteride before a procedure? Does it strengthen the native hair and that’ll help with shock loss? Also what would the best time be to take finasteride, upon waking or before bed?
