  1. i second that chan...do your research...there are doctors on here that in my opinion do better work for a better price...you see a few of them in this thread...just look...personally i would look at hasson, wong, feller, or shapiro...their results speak for themselves.
  2. good question but unfortunately all heads are different...in my case my head is huge so obviously i will have more surface to cover. i have also noticed that a nw 6 on one person is not the same as on another person...people don't lose their hair in the exact same way...if you do an online consult with a doctor, take a picture of the area that needs to be covered...draw a hairline that you want and hold a ruler up to your scalp...with that information in a picture a doctor can easily tell approximately the surface area in cm squared.
  3. good advice rjnebbo..i do the same thing...it will be two weeks thursday post op...i mainly lift arms and legs...i do bench but i don't lay my head on the bench...if i feel any stretch at all on the back of the head i just don't do that exercise...forget about completing the set...just drop that exercise and move on...definitely don't do back exercises or abs.
  4. i have been very interested in the BHT procedure...i have unusually thick body hair that has the same color and texture as my head hair...i have followed Dr. Umar for a long time and have yet to see substantial updated cases...i am sure that there is a few cases out of many that have a successful result, but it seems these are few and far between. my question to Dr. Umar is if the yield after BHT are substantially lower then why is it so expensive to get a procedure done...i know it is time consuming but it seems like money is the overriding factor in preforming these huge BHT procedures. finally, you can't tell me that everyone is a candidate for BHT...just like strip surgery there should be some subjective decisions that need to be made as to whether or not someone is a candidate...i see dr. umar taking ultra thin hair from a leg and putting it on the scalp...how can this create a beneficial cosmetic effect? if he had some sort of criteria on who is a candidate and who isn't this would also be more assuring...currently it is my assumption that dr. umar approves this procedure with anyone who has body hair.
  5. Bill...there should be another section other than inside the posts where people can follow up cases...if someone presents a case in a post it should be transferred to another part of the forum so it can easily be referenced...i agree with swaggers argument that some cases get lost after time due to posting after the fact...the cases get lost in hundreds of posts...i think this would be a good feature for all. best regards
  6. it my after care packet they say you can resume weightlifting at three weeks...i see this and now it makes me nervous!
  7. i was consulting with two doctors when i was trying to decide who to go with...i narrowed it down by listening to people on this same forum and by seeing the consistent results both doctors produced...they had well documented cases...actually numerous cases...i asked the first doctor who was really my second choice..."if you had to refer me to another HT doctor other than yourself, who would it be" the first words that came out of his mouth was my first choice. he actually gave a couple names who people time and time again suggest...if you ask that same question to a doctor and he gives you names you never heard of, you better think twice about putting your faith in that doctor.
  8. i am read these boards and offer what advice i can because i know how hairloss changes peoples lives...i see people who think if a doctor down the street does HT then he must know what he is doing...not all doctors are created equal.
  9. the research is all laid out here for you by people who have already done their research...simply look at results...doctors with no very little documented cases and actual picture/video results i would stay away from...when you see half or more narrowing their doctors down to three you can see that those are probably the ones you want to consult with...i am not going to push a particular doctor, but i knew that if i didn't chose the doctor i did, i would always second guess my decision..like leeson said...it is definitely not worth the gamble...consistent results is the key...any halfway decent surgeon can have post a few good results and the rest not come out so great. just because surgeons use the same protocols does not mean you will have the same results...artistry plays a big role in the outcome...every had is shaped different...hairloss falls into many different categories...not every norwood six has the same exact pattern...a surgeons ability to place the grafts in a way that provides the appearance of more coverage can be the difference in an O.K. procedure rather than a great procedure.
  10. what doctor did you see, how many grafts were placed, where did those grafts get placed, and did you ask him the approximate number of grafts/square centimeters?
  11. i have been running my hands straight down my head in the direction of the growing shaft...this seems to be breaking up a lot of the crust...it comes off in what appears to be little white balls...i was just assuming all the crust had to be off by day fourteen...wasn't really sure.
  12. Bill...i loved that response...what a cool guy.
  13. so you are saying i need patience???? haha...where do i buy that at?
  14. at what point will i know if i am a candidate for a second procedure...my first and only procedure was seven days ago with a total of 4350 grafts removed.

  16. alright...so if they don't come off by gently massaging then i shouldn't force the issue?...just let them fall off in time?...my head is not filled with scabs...just a sort of light crust...don't really know how to describe it...you can feel the texture just a little rough on top...if i rub gently over the dry scalp some drop off...just didn't know if i should force the issue at the benefit of having a clean scalp.
  17. i know that they tell you the goal is to start working the scaps (more like crust) from the scalp at seven days post op onward. i was wondering if anyone had any ideas to do this. should i use my hands or a fine bristle brush like a toothbrush?
  18. nobody is immune to these kind of circumstances life places on us. i am sure you will find the strength to remain positive for your family and yourself. i hope things work out for you and you are able to value each day even more than you did previously.
  19. does anyone know if there is a problem with using nicotine after a HT procedure. this was brought to my attention by a friend that is a nurse. she doesn't know any hard evidence but just used her logic to surmise it might not be a good idea to use nicotine after a HT procedure.
  20. amazing...people investing financially and emotionally and they were worried about finding someone in their city...do some research absorb 500 in airfare...(some refund this) make a flight to a surgeon you trust and have researched. sigh
  21. i will post photos and such about my experiences but nothing much to report 4 days post op. i can say that my healing is going well. not much "oozing" at all. just doing the normal protocol of washing and taking antibiotics. in a couple days i will begin using normal pressure. from what i understand, most people are scared to use normal pressure so soon, but it was explained to me that this is needed to get the scabbing off the scalp. the staple area is very clean and i anticipate very good healing. the work done was very neat. i will for sure keep people posted and start a blog. jf
  22. i have never understood peoples decision process in choosing a transplant surgeon. it is very simple. never let location sway you from a doctor. if you have to travel halfway across the world so be it. this is an investment in your future. the cost of travel should not be a deciding factor. results speak for themselves. if your intended doctor doesn't show actual cases on his site then he/she is probably not worth trusting. select a doctor that has given consistent results. never select a doctor that promises you the world. a good clinic will give you a scenario that is realistic. why some people ask opinions on doctors most have never heard of is beyond me. go to a doctor that has a good standing reputation. if a doctor that you are considering is getting negative feedback, it is probably worth investigating further before you proceed. if you add all of these criteria up you will find two doctors in canada that fit the bill. hasson and wong! i am three days post op and couldn't be more pleased with everything i experienced. i researched this site for about 3 years before i decided. i never posted, just read and read and read. now that i have completed my procedure, i am willing to share every experience. if i can be of help over the phone please let me know.
  23. prior to my procedure i was on this site constantly. with the help of this site i was able to proceed with my decision to get a transplant done. having completed a 4300 graft surgery, i am willing to speak with anyone by phone if there are questions that need to be answered. i am currently three days post op and feel absolutely great. if anyone has any questions or wants to contact me by phone, don't hesitate to ask. jf
