  1. Has anybody tried it with their regimen?

Have a transplant scheduled with a recommended doc on here in a week and want to start a good regimen.

I cant handle finasteride so I was thinking about trying Minoxidil, Niz, biotin sup., protein shakes, and possibly a collagen supplement.  Any thoughts on these?

Was going to try microneedling but Doc said he would advise against it because we don’t know enough about it. It creates wounds which create scars and scar tissue.

Anyways, want to get a good regimen going and want this great communities input.  Thanks

I have had both and I thought FUT was easier because I have longer hair.  I would not recommend FUT for guys who like short hair, but you already stated you like longer hair.  For longer hair guys it is nearly impossible to hide the shaved donor area with FUE.  I think the success rates are about the same so it comes down to hair styles for me.  If you decide to go FUE I would suggest you just buzz your head ahead of time so people get used to that look, and then let it grow back out.  Trying to maintain length with FUE is not easy.  You didn't mention hair color or density of you donor area.

Thanks @Dazed, here’s a photo of my donor.  Id like to grow my hair out at least another inch in the back.

  3. Hey all, so I had a consultation recently and everything went well, and was going to call back to schedule a date for my surgery but can’t decide if I really want Fut and that scar, or fue and and pay an extra 5 grand?

Really want some opinions here from folks who have had both.  Some points to consider; I like wearing my hair longer- I have soft/fine hair qualities.

Im ready to get this done, and was leaning towards Fut but thinking about the scar and future thinning and not knowing where I’ll be at in 10-15 years scares me.

Any advice/ opinions please chime in!

    thank you all

Sorry to hear. Is the pain permanently there, or just sometimes?

I know we've only had 13 poll entries, but I'm surprised at the results to be honest. The information leaflets by the chemist showed studies that indicated only around 1-5% of people would suffer side effects (However, they also gave "unknown" for a couple of things like depression). Looking at this thread however, you'd think it was just a coin toss in terms of Finasteride side effects!

Really disappointed - I think I'll skip Finasteride for now, at least until I see more studies. Is there something safer than Finasteride to pause hair loss? I've heard Minoxidil can add around 20% of hair density, but the hair loss slide still happens (and if you come off it, it's as if you never took it at all).

It’s there everyday.  Can’t sleep in some positions, they are extra sore after a hard workout or after a hard you know what lol.

It sucks, I know it isn’t giving everybody bad sides but for me it did and I’ll regret it for the rest of my life.

  5. Stuff is poison to me.  I wouldn’t and couldn’t recommend it to anyone to save them the chance of getting the sides I got/have.

Finasteride completely killed my sex drive and erections in a time where I was just starting a new relationship.  I gave it a little more time thinking it was in my head or going to go away and then started feeling a dull ache in my testicle.  Here I am 4 and a half years later with that same pain.

Will never touch it or recommend it, almost ruined my manhood.

I wish I had something helpful to offer here. I had some similar symptoms, and they’ve lessened over the last 1.5 - 2 years since stopping fin, but haven’t completely subsided.

Has your pain diminished at all? Hopefully it will resolve with more time.

On a separate note, how has your hair loss been since then? Considering a transplant?

No it hasn’t gotten any better nor worse.

Hairloss has been slowly receding for years but I feel like it’s stopping which is great.

Ya I actually have a consultation in a few days with a doc.  Nervous as heck lol

just wish I never took that finasteride

  7. Hey guys, I was on finasteride for a few weeks and experienced complete loss of erection and my libido.  It scared the hell out of me, then my testicle started to ache and I said no more, so I tapered off of it.

That was 4 years ago.  After a few weeks my erections and libido came back but the testicle ache and sensitivity never subsided.  Went to a urologist and he said everything looks fine just stay away from Finasteride.

Here I am today still with extreme sensitivity and was just wondering if anyone on here has the same thing going on and if they had any advice to give me?

    Thanks

In the 30 years I've been involved in this industry I think I've experienced all.  I've seen patients remain stable for years only to find, within 1 year, they lost a considerable amount of hair. Seems, by what you've written, that you have experience very gradual loss.  If there is family history and you know it's coming, I would encourage you to speak with your doctor or derm about getting on medical therapy ASAP.  Once you lose it, it's not coming back, so be proactive.

Well that’s the thing, only my dad is bald out of everyone in my family and he lost all of his hair by 30.

I tried finasteride, gave me terrible sides.

Minoxidil worked for a few years.  I have a consultation with a hair transplant doc next week

  9. I live in the great PNW and have narrowed my search down to Gabel and Hasson.

Both Hasson and Gabel are top notch in the hair transplant industry so I’ve gone back and fourth on which one would best suit my case.

Im leaning towards Hasson because of his amazing hairline and frontal results.  I’m not saying Gabel can’t give me a great result, I just think Hasson really goes for it with the number of grafts while Gabel seems to take a more conservative approach with less grafts which can lead to a thinning hairline look which I don’t want.

    What are your opinions?

  10. I’ve been going back and fourth regarding if I should get a transplant.  Fears of Will I like it, will it look natural, how will my friends and family react to it always run through my mind.   I know I really want it and need it but also these fears are always getting in the way of me pulling the trigger.

so a few questions for you guys,

1- how did your friends/family react?

2-how did it change your life?

3- was it worth it/ do you regret it?

if anyone who has had one could chime in I would appreciate it.

    Thanks

  11. Have you reached out to doctor Gabel with your concerns?  It does seem like you could have used more grafts.

Gabel is in my neck of the woods so I’ve looked into having him work on me, but your case makes me think about looking into someone else as I need my hairline replaced and you aren’t seeing great results.

Hope for more growth for yah
