  1. So Tom, are you saying that you definitely had good results from PRP? Did your miniaturized hairs thicken or just your healthy hairs? Also did you see a decrease in shedding/daily hair loss after the treatment?
  2. PRP has been around for over 20 years. The only thing new is its current application to the scalp. PRP was mainly used to aid in surgeries as well as speed up healing time and is currently used in athletic injuries as well (Hines Ward had it done to his knee last year). I believe David Knighton focused on its wund healing properties not its application to the scalp as a form of hair loss treatment. The funny thing is, I know what prp does for the body but cannot figure out how or why it works on hair. Still trying to figure out whether I should schedule a session.
  3. no prob brent. Thats nice to know about propecia but I am guessing the reason you stopped is the exact reason I am nervous to starts....sides..
  4. Severn, I was/am afraid of taking propecia for two reasons 1) I hear it is not that effective for frontal (this is where I am thinning) and 2) I checked out propeciahelp.com and if that doesn't scare you then I don't know what will did you see any effect of propecia on frontal scalp? brent, the video is just where I described "on the march 12th post of Dr. Grecos Blog. http://doctorgreco.blogspot.com/" scroll down to the march 12th post on that blog. Don't know how real those results are but that video combined with Fellers pics are promising and making re-think prp with Dr. Charles and it looks like I am going to do it. Especially because I still have a lot of hair and my thinning are in small areas which makes me a great candidate, so they say.
  5. Yea when I say "does it work in the front" I did not mean will it regrow the front, I meant will it stop loss in the front. If it can just stop the loss in the front then that would be awesome. If I can keep what I have right now I would be happy, so that being said. Propecia does not loss in the front just as good as the back, but it doesn't regrow as well in the front? Do I have that correct?
  6. Thanks HDude but I wasn't asking anything in my last post. I was just showing a patients results from dr Greco. And DR. Greco told me to use PRP before I decide to take propecia because of the prp having no sides. Anyways it looks like I will get on propecia because I am shedding everyday and it is coming from the same two places ( top corners). Even thought I know shedding is normal it is only occuring in two places for the most part for me and I know what that means...get on meds...
  7. dont know if this has been posted but check the video on the march 12th post of Dr. Grecos Blog. http://doctorgreco.blogspot.com/ Patient looks like he has great results however the first shot of him getting the treatment is actually him getting the 2nd treatment and his head does not look as thick as it does in the after shot. I dont know if we should read into that at all. Anyways I found out that this patient was not on any meds and has not had a HT. He had 2 prp treatments 9 months apart.
  8. Yea well if one prp treatment a year can do even 75% of what propecia can do then I have absolutely no problem doing prp especially since I am really nervous about propecia. I am just trying to figure out if I should wait ( and risk further hair loss since I am not on propecia) or just do the prp and see what happens.
  9. Thanks for the info. I am just heading into a nw2. Does propecia work just as good for the front as it does for the middle and crown. My crown and middle are very dense and thick. Also what is your current dosage? Thanks again
  10. yea I just saw that. I am still trying to find out what the best case scenario is for prp, does it slow down loss for 6-8months, stop loss for 6-8months, grow hair, reverse miniaturization etc.. A couple doctors keep telling me that I may see "results" from prp and I may not but when it comes to hair loss results are pretty vague and I just want to know what they have seen.
  11. I see your point but then there are people who say they can't get rid of the sides. I think that people still have sides after they stop because its in their head but then again their sides started from propecia. I am also not making my own dosing plans from scratch. Dr Cooley has made posts that he believes .5mg 3 times a week works almost as well as the FDA 1mg and it also reduces sides. Also SplittingHairs and Hdude, are you guys on propecia? If so what is your regimen with it and how have your results been both in hair loss and sides?
  12. Dr Lindsey, are you considering offering prp as a treatment alone or in conjunction with a HT. I ask because I have some thinning on my frontal left top corner as well as a little on my right side but I am too young and still have too much hair for a HT. Do you think PRP is something I should seriously look at?? Also I have yet to here from doctors of what the best case scenario of a prp treatment today would be...Does it stop loss for 6 months, slow it down for 6 months, reverse miniaturization for 6 months, just thicken healthy hairs for 6 months etc..?
  13. I do not think the white bulb is dandruff because it is really attached to the hair and is almost difficult to detach from the hair. Also as far as meds go, would .25 mg of propecia (3 times a week) significantly reduce the chance for side effects or is propecia one of those drug where the dosage doesn't really matter for sides it just depends on how the person reacts?
  14. I am trying to figure out if I am shedding at a normal pace or is my hairloss getting worse. I read that it is normal to lose 50-100 hairs a day but then I read people shedding from hair loss and having massive sheds and I do not know what they mean. I lose most hairs 2 times a day. One being when I shower and wash my hair. I will lose probably 15-20 hairs in my hand. Then When I wake up in the morning if I brush my hair I will probably see 10-15 hairs fall down everyday. I am thinning on my two frontal top corners but I do not know if my front is getting worse or if its just normal shedding. Can anyone explain?? Also 10 out of 10 hairs that fall out have the white bulb at the end. Any significance?
  15. I did not say that there are no options, I said that I have no options for the reasons I listed above. One reason I am not taking propecia is because I had side effects from saw palmetto which led me to believe that I would be much worse on propecia. Also does rogaine work on the hairline and frontal scalp??? I heard it does not
  16. I would like to hear what Dr. Feller's thoughts on PRP are now after the meeting since he might have had a chance to speak with other docs who are using it. I am too young and dont have enough loss for a HT, I am too nervous about finasteride, minox doesn't really work on the frontal scalp so I am stuck with Nizoral. So I was hoping prp would work somewhat but I have yet to read one positive result from a patient who is not on other meds that would effect his results. All the "good" stuff has come from a couple doctors and that makes me nervous to spend about 80 hours of work on a treatment where I have not heard one good result that says before I did prp I was losing hair and after my hair loss slowed down or stopped or reversed. I am also nervous because some people say it takes a couple months to work but in Greco's study it says by the 8th month it wears off, so that means it only works for 4-6 months?? I want to do something but it seems like I have no options.
  17. This is what Dr. Rassman had to say after the meeting in amsterdam about the PRP topics.. Kind of put me in a bad mood since I was planning on getting it done but now I don't know if I will. "PRP: The use of platelet rich plasma (PRP) was a theme for many scientific papers. We have known that for topical use on skin wounds, this PRP has shown value in accelerating healing when applied. Studies for its application for alopecia areata was suggested by one doctor and a few doctors have started to soak the grafts in the plasma of patients to see if the grafts grew sooner, looked more robust and had a high ???take??? rate. I would not trust the conclusions of these doctors without a good scientific study to back up their observations. For the moment, I would call this ???human experimentation???."
  18. Thanks. I read Dr. Cooley's post earlier. I know it mentions 1 mg mwf but would .5mg be effective? I almost have it in my head that I will get side effects (because of the internet, double-edged sword i guess), therefore I would like to take the least dosage that still is somewhat effective. Also I do not have health insurance right now, should I do blood test and have a check-up prior to taking propecia?? I can get a prescription from the HT doc that I met with but should I try and have a check-up and speak with a physician before hand?
  19. Thanks. I really do not want to post pics, I am not really comfortable doing that. But to describe it in detail. I have really thick hair, that grows fast. I use to have the barber thin out my hair when I got it cut because it was so thick. I started to notice it thinning about 12-18 months ago. If you meet me you would probably say that I am not thinning or balding at all because I have a lot of hair and can cover it up, for the time being. The left frontal is worse than the right. I am also thinking that maybe the front is starting to go but the docs said that it looks good so I might just be paranoid. Also if I started finastride with .5 mg and just took it MWF would it reduce the potential side effects or would it be a waste of money and not do anything? Also how much does propecia cost from a reputable domestic (US)pharmacy not those online Canadian or overseas ones.
  20. Hey guys, I am 22 and have some thinning on my left frontal corner and my right frontal corner. I have met with respectable doctors and one said there is no way a respectable doc would give me an HT because I am too young and do not have significant hair loss just thinning. Charles and Epstein recommended LLLT, PRP and one doc said propecia as well. I do not want to do the LLLT. But I have been considering the PRP. I am scared of propecia because I did have some side effects from taking just saw palmetto (testicular pain) and I am guessing that that might mean that I will probably have side effects from propecia. I also do not want to be on a pill at 22 for the rest of my life. I am a college student so the PRP is pretty expensive for me but I can finance with no interest for 12 months. I have been on Nizoral (non prescription) for a couple weeks but thats it. I still shed every day from my fron left corner and some on my right. Just wanted to know what you guys suggest I do.
