I’m sure there are plenty of our surgeons willing to prescribe oral minoxidil. However, paying a consultation fee should be expected. Time is money, and a surgeons time isn’t free, nor should it be.

I'm confused, was this comment directed at me? You're repeating exactly what I already said.

I can understand them charging you a fee for the doctor consultation, but a $100 fee on top of that for writing the prescription feels inappropriate to me.

Well, it is a business. I'm sure most HT clinics would charge similarly. Of course, if you were their HT patient, they'd likely prescribe it for free.

I can tell you from personal experience that I did not get charged anywhere near these fees when I was first prescribed the medication. I can understand them charging you a fee for the doctor consultation, but a $100 fee on top of that for writing the prescription feels inappropriate to me.

Have you noticed any improvement? Any side effects? Do you take anything else with it?

Results for me were great, hair was healthier and thicker.

I had a complimentary video appointment and they charged a ~$100 prescription fee. Then they want me to have an in-person appointment after 3 months for ~$300ish, followed by ~$100 for prescription refills (up to 1 year at a time, I believe). Hoping to avoid those charges before the 3 months, by finding another clinic who's covered by my insurance.

Ouch, yeah sort of sounds like they are taking advantage of you

You can maybe try one of these online pharmacies like Blink or GoodRx, that's what I'm going to try if in-person doesn't work out.

Can those sites actually prescribe the meds though? I thought they were just online pharmacies/ways to get a discount on meds.

Where are you located? I personally wouldn't prescribe oral minoxidil without an EKG since it's a cardiac med.

    I am in the USA

I've been doing the same recently. My regular PCP and derm were not comfortable prescribing it. I searched for nearby HT or dermatology clinics and sent out emails/called in asking if they have experience prescribing low-dose oral minoxidil for hair loss. A couple of them said yes. I ended up getting a prescription from the HT clinic, but they charge a fee. Been on 1.25mg/day for a month now. I have an appointment with a derm clinic this week who is covered by my insurance, and I'm hoping I can rely on them to prescribe it to me.

If I were you I'd at least contact doctor's office to see if they have any experience with this before scheduling an appointment.

Thanks, can you explain the fee that the HT clinic is charging you? For example, did they require you to have an appointment with the doctor (and of course that would have a fee) or are you saying they are charging you a fee for actually writing the prescription?

Is insurance paying for the oral minoxidil? If not, what's the cost?

Yes my insurance has covered it, it was super cheap, just a couple dollars per month

  5. Hi everyone, I had used Oral Minoxidil for a couple years with great results. I was initially on 2.5MG but eventually decided to drop the dosage to 1.25MG and found I had great results with both dosages.

The local doctor (PCP) that had been writing the Rx for me recently moved to a different part of the country and I have not been able to find a replacement doctor willing to refill my Rx. So I had a couple questions:

    1. Are there any HT doctors that are willing to do e-visits and write a Rx?

    2. For those of you that are taking oral minoxidil who/how did you get the prescription? It's a frustrating waste of time and money for me to go doctor-hunting and schedule appointments with 10 different doctors to find the one guy that is willing to write the Rx. I also don't want to constantly be in and out of doctors offices for obvious reasons (COVID-19).

    Thanks!

Dr Leonard Aranovitz was the one that gave me the poor growth, He's a complete liar and his clinic told me bc I didnt do a 6 month follow up with their clinic so theres nothing they can do for me.

Man that's frustrating. I've never heard of the doc, why/how did you choose him in the first place

  7. if all your native hairs have already shed then what is the point of doubling the dosage? is hasson trying to strengthen your donor?

where do you live? is there a coalition doc near you that you could see to determine if the remaining hair on your head is transplanted or native?

what'd hasson say about the scar placement?

1,450 from Niedbalski, 2,200 from Rahal, 1,150 from Gabel (all rounding), so 4,800 total.  So with thick native hair behind it, it's going to look great.  It helped that between my first transplant at 29 to my third at 36, I really haven't had any additional loss; it's easier to go aggressive once you've aged a bit and have established that your loss will stabilize.

I meant to ask you, what's your regimen with the dutasteride/finasteride? Any increase in sides or other issues with the Dut?

@jcs87not sure why it's not showing on your end; can you please let me know if you're still having this problem?

Ok I think it was just an issue with the website when I happened to be looking at your photos a few days ago. Seems to be working fine now. I was having trouble finding the professional quality photos that Cooley takes the morning of surgery (in the consultation room). Did you post those somewhere in your thread? I would love to see those side by side next to your final 13 month photos if you have any recent ones.

HnW showcase thousands on their website and there are another 30 or so in this graft range and similar loss so there's plenty to there to base my point on.  I agree that there's likely still improvement to come over the next few months though.

I've spent a lot of time on the H&W website and as far as i am aware there is nowhere near "thousands of results"

In fact I just went to the website out of curiosity and found approximately 64 photo before and afters and 225 video before and afters. So that's a total of approximately 300 results (if we assume there is no overlap between the guys in the photos and the guys in the videos).

Can you show us where you found thousands of results on their site?

Regardless, I agree with you that UKLad's result is certainly not a homerun at this point, but he's still got time before we should pass final judgement and stress him out.

To be honest I would be expecting a lot more growth for that amount of grafts. I don't really see a major cosmetic improvement, most of the hair there seems to be the original forelock.

    https://hassonandwong.com/hair-transplant-results/patient-1898/?_sfm_number_of_grafts=4000+4500

You definitely have a strong hair quality, these results show how far that amount of grafts can go so I would have expected a bit more. Not trying to be negative for the sake of it but I'd definitely see if Cooley can do a graft count to see what your yield was if you go back for a follow up.

I think that's a bit harsh for the following reasons:

    1. UKLad is just crossing the 8 month mark. Those H&W results are at the 15 and 21 month mark. That is certainly not an apples-to-apples comparison.

    2. It would be expected that H&W (just like any doc) is gonna showcase their best results on their website. So these guys probably represent part of the top tier of results.

    3. The second guy had more native hair than UKLad. (The first guy is an amazing transformation - especially since it is FUE which we know H&W started doing later than many docs).

  12. Don't mess around and risk becoming a repair patient just cuz u wanted to save some money. I was in your shoes for the past 2 years and was super close to going with a cheaper doctor to save some money...ended up deciding against it. If money really is tight then there are some cheaper doctors on this site that may be safer bets. do your homework...

  13. Hello PMA - Congratulations on your journey. Looks amazing.

Am from the UK as well and looking at Lorenzo for crown work. If you have some time could you please help on some of the questions I have:

    1) Does the clinic help arrange a hotel near to them?

    2) Does the clinic have a service where they pick you up from the hotel, airport and so on? It would just help I guess to have that arrangement.

    3) Does Dr Lorenzo do the extractions and implanting - I am assuming that he does the incision?

    4) I guess you stayed close to the clinic, what were the rates you paid for the hotel?

    5) Is the clinic far from the airport?

    Thanks

I believe Dr Lorenzo's techs handle the extractions these days (I'm not 100% sure - but that is what I have heard)
