This 42-year-old man underwent a follicular unit extraction (FUE) session with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley in which a total of 2514 grafts were placed.  Another patient shown after 2537 FUE grafts harvested.

Patients often inquire how short they may wear their hair after an FUE.  That is the purpose for this informative post.  However, plenty of patients elect to wear their hair long throughout as the growth cycle of the hair in the recipient area allows for long hair to be worn as a facial framing.  This is shown in the second image.

Aspects of our surgical approach can be viewed on our site’s Most Common Questions page. Three elements combined to help improve his experience: graft harvest, graft storage, and patient safety. Rather than a larger FUE punch used by a robotic approach, Dr. Wesley used a smaller caliber hand-held motorized punch to performe the donor harvest.  This approach better enabled the capture of donor-intact hair roots that are slightly curved beneath the skin surface.  Upon completion of the harvest, the patient’s donor area was treated with PRP and ACell in order to not only minimize scar tissue formation but also encourage partial regeneration of donor hair follicles.

The patient returned one year after his procedure and images of the patient can be seen below.  This link illustrates the timing of hair growth after surgery.  Similar patient hair transformations with Dr. Wesley and his team may also be viewed.

In order to repair a poorly-executed transplant performed by another surgeon, this 39-year-old man underwent a session combining follicular unit extraction(FUE) with follicular unit transplantation (FUT) with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley in which a total of 2277 grafts were placed

Aspects of our surgical approach can be viewed on our site’s Most Common Questions page. Three unique elements combined to help improve his experience: no-shave requirement for optimal discretion, enhanced graft storage measures, and rigid patient safety standards.

As with all of Dr. Wesley’s patients, he was NOT required to cut his hair for the procedure.  As a result, this patient was able to return comfortably to work and social activities within approximately 7-10 days of his procedure.

The patient’s hair follicles were incubated in platelet rich plasma (PRP) throughout the duration of the procedure.  This, combined with an ATP-containing storage solution has been shown to enhance survival of transplanted hairs.

The patient returned 2.5 years after his procedure and images of the patient can be seen below.  This link illustrates the timing of hair growth after surgery.  Similar patient hair transformations with Dr. Wesley and his team may also be viewed.

This 43-year-old man underwent a follicular unit extraction (FUE) session with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley in which a total of 2445 grafts were placed

Finally, having his procedure performed in our office with the highest standards of COVID precautions helped ensure patient safety. Every patient of Dr. Wesley’s receives a rapid COVID test upon arrival to our office equipped with an ultraviolet air purification system.  Measures such as reducing foot traffic by performing virtual consultations at no charge to patients, regular staff COVID testing and no-touch temperature checks of our team that avoids public transportation help preserve our clean and sanitary safe haven. Daily sterilization of the office coupled with the most rigid OR safety precautions further allay patient concerns in this sensitive time.

To provide a more well-defined shaping of his facial hair, this 42-year-old man visited the office of  Dr. Carlos K. Wesley to undergo an follicular unit extraction session in which a total of 474 beard grafts were harvested from beneath his mandible and placed into the donor area as shown.

His hair follicles were incubated in autologous (his own)platelet rich plasma (PRP) throughout the duration of the procedure.  This, combined with an ATP-containing storage solution has been shown to enhance survival of transplanted hairs.

Rather than a larger FUE punch used by a robotic approach, Dr. Wesley used a smaller caliber 0.8mm hand-held motorized punch to performed the donor harvest.  This approach better enabled the capture of donor hair roots that are slightly curved beneath the skin surface.  Upon completion of the harvest, the patient’s donor area was treated with PRP and ACell in order to not only minimize scar tissue formation, but also encourage partial regeneration of donor hair follicles.

As someone who has lived with a scar, running horizontal across the hairline from one temple to the other for 37 years, having hair again to hide it means as much, if not more as the hair restoration itself. I trust that this patient will be truly happy with these results. They will mean more than just having hair back again. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for sharing your story, Gatsby! Have a wonderful weekend!

Does this really protect grafts more than the usual methods? What is the impact of having grafts in PRP for a few hours before implanting?

    Hi, CharlesBarkley.

Dr. Wesley discusses the benefits and limitations of PRP as a scalp therapy for hair loss in this lecture.

Have wonderful rest of the week!
