  1. Is it true that if you have largely thinned out hair, does cutting them short might mean they never grow back that long again. For this fear, I am not cutting my thinned out hair much now, just keeping their length as it is and trying to hold them for as long as possible? Can someone tell me if cutting them short is safe, will they grow back long again?

A teenage hairline is exactly just that. So many people ruin their scalp (myself above all) by trying to go back and recreate an unrealistic goal of hair transplantation. A hair transplant is the illusion of having more hair than you would if you never went bald. It will never replace a non balding person from MPB. A hair transplant is also for people who are bald or balding and is a last resort. Medication should always be the first port of call. All the best!

Congrats for your awesome result. It would be great if you could share your teenage photos, if you don't mind. Will help to understand how close you get to original.

  3. Hi, attached is my teenage photo. As you can see my hairline is as wide as  my forehead width. I mean the distance from the top of my head to the topmost hair is as wide as forehead. I think this kind of puffy hairline is the result of wavy texture than density. Would my hairline, even with half the density, look like my original with a hair transplant or the width of hairline(distance from top of head to topmost hair)  would also become half of original? Can someone tell how close they were able to get to their original teenage hairline with a hair transplant?

    Gs1207,

I think it’s great that you are researching your options and taking your time before making a decision. In my opinion, given all the advancements with FUE over the last several years, there are only two compelling reasons to choose FUT over FUE. The first one is price. FUE is still more expensive than FUT however, the consistency in obtaining impressive results is pretty much the same now as long as you’re going to an experienced surgeon who specializes in FUE.  The only other reason to consider undergoing FUT is the possibility of obtaining more grafts over a long period of time.  For example, someone who is young with advanced balding might undergo as many FUT procedures as possible until they’re “stripped out” and then switch to FUE to max out and finish everything off.  Combining FUT with FUE does enable a patient to maximize the number of grafts over many procedures.

All that to say, most patients don’t need to combine procedures because undergoing a few FUE procedures is often enough for a patient to get the results they want and need and will provide the patient with the ability to wear their hair cropped short on the sides and back without showing any scarring. It’s not that FUE scarring is invisible, but it is far less detectable and eliminates the linear scar associated with strip.

    Best wishes,

    Rahal Hair Transplant

Is there any problem in doing fue first ,max out,and fut later? Can you please tell what difference does it make

This is a lot of loss in the last 2 years. Your only 28, which means you will continue to lose ground. When you say meds are not helping, are you already on Fin ? Looking at your current situation I wouldn’t personally say your a good candidate. Your donor area doesn’t seem that strong, and I can see evidence the crown is dipping already. If you are on fin and still losing ground then I think it’s going to be a very big risk in undertaking a hair transplant. Ok so your beard maybe good, and is pretty reliable. However the chest has much less yield, can be around 50%. Body hair is a good source to supplement scalp hair, but the overall percentage should always be mostly scalp. Proceed with caution and get Eugenix to give you feedback.

Transplants should never be done with the support of medicines. Even for people for whom it works ,they will eventually lose finastride dependant hair and in my opinion ,one has to be dependant on and conservative with what can be done with permanent hair from donor and beard only. Doing fut will allow more scalp donor hair and consequently more beard  hair to be used for obvious reasons. But thing with fue clinics doing norwood 6 is that HT is too dependant on finastride. I am still trying to understand how much unsafe donor area is eugenix using for norwood 6 and where they are placing those unsafe grafts which are inevitably going to be lost. But the good thing is that they seem to be doing more with less grafts which might help them to avoid unsafe donor area altogether.

    Hi all

I've mentioned in this forum that i was going to get my procedure done at Eugenix on Nov 14/15th and have asked a few questions on the medication etc. I had received several suggestions to my questions. So thanks for that.

    Here is my experience:

After seeing glowing reviews on Eugenix, have pretty much made up mind about this. I was just waiting for the right moment to book a procedure. Luckily i happened to be in India around Nov 1st week for some personal reasons and therefore enquired with Eugenix about the potential dates. My idea was to get the procedure done while i was there in India if i can get a slot. Fortunately someone postponed their procedure from Nov 14th/15th and so this date was made available. I was not 100% about going for the procedure as i had my doubts about medication, covid and the usual nervousness. However after some deliberation i paid the deposit with a view to forfeit it, if i change my mind but did not want to let go off the date. I was asked to get all the blood tests done before hand. I've somehow made up my mind and so booked my tickets to Delhi (had to postpone my travel to UK because of this and had to pay a fortune for flights for changing the dates).

I have arrived in Delhi a day before to be received by somone from Eugenix and was put up in Hilton which was nearby. I was specifically asked to come a day before so i can relax. The usual nerves were there since i did not have a video consulatation before hand with doctors but have only sent my pictures to be given a graft estimate.

    Day 1:

I was picked up on Nov 14th morning promptly at 9am and was there in clinic in no time. A technician then asked me some quick questions, handed over some paperwork to sign and was already giving some tablets for PrP i think. I was slightly takenback at the hasty approach and then asked to meet the doctor before i commit for anything. I was asked to wait for a while and shortly afterwards Dr Arika came in to see me. This was the first time i saw the doctor for consultation and i wanted to clarify a fewthings before i went ahead. She clarified some of my questions patiently which eased me a bit. I then finished formalities, paid monies.  Dr Arika said she can give full density with 3500 grafts and hence i paid for that with exclusive package where Dr Arika would be doing the slitting.

I moved on for photo session, Dr Arika came in briefly to discuss the hairline design. I've shown some of my younger pics (when i was 30, am now 42) and she gave me 2 options, conservative hairline with full density incl crown or aggressive hairline with crown later on. I went with former option. All this was done fairly quickly in less than 5 mins i think. Once the photo session is done, hair trim, head wash was done followed by the procedure itself.

Next thing, i was in  the OT and the first session was a bit painful, was given anasthesia on the scalp, however i was bearing a bit of pain thinking that it was normal. Slitting was done by Dr Arika and the grafting and planting was happenig together. The prelunch session was a bit slow i was oozing quite a bit of blood i think and they could only manage 600 grafts in that session. Lunch was provided in a 30min break. We resumed and Dr Somesh walked in and mentioned something important to me that i am supposed to have zero pain and i can tell them if it pained anywhere on scalp. It comforted me and soon have got the entire scalp checked with more anasthesia and the afternoon procedure went like a breeze. In only a few hours they managed to extract an additional 1320grafts. Around 6.30pm the graft count was 1920. I think Dr Arika came in once in between to ensure things are ok.

    Day 2

I was in OT quite early by 10 am and Dr Arika came in shortly to do slitting for the rest and i have re-emphasized to her that if they need more grafts to achieve complete coverage they can go for it, however Dr felt confident that it may not be needed. Besides upon enquiring she also mentioned that i have atleast 2k grafts left if needed for future. This was followed by more grafting and planting. A lunch break was given and the day finished at 5pm with another 1923 grafts for the day.

The total graft count stood at 3843 to 3500 that was initially planned for. Dr Arika reviewed the final design and expressed her satisfaction at the work and i have signed off for the day by paying the remaining amount.

I have stayed an extra 5 days in Delhi to get dressing done on a daily basis and the entire staff was quite polite and friendly.

I have done my headwash on 7th day at home, howeever scabs were  stubborn. I then had followed some advice from here where people rinsed their hair with lukewarm water while gently massaging the scalp and this has gotten rid of scabs in 2nd and 3rd wash.

I'm on day 10 as of writing this and am attaching some of the pics. I still have numbness on the scalp with donor still feeling a bit rough.

These are pre, operated day and day 7,9,10th day pics. The files have been named with the day numbers.

I shall update the pics may be on a monthly basis. Currently i am only taking multivitamins, am soon going to start finax with a total of 1.5mg per wk.

    Thoughts pls.

I also have a few questions

    1. can i apply any oil or moisturiser on scalp as it feels dry particularly donor (feels flaky and still pains a little)

    2. When would the planted hairs shed off, was thinking this around 3r week mark - is this right?

    3. Any other diet or medication or multivitamins needed for planted hair growth from roots ?

    4. Any other precautions to be followed? was told none by Eugenix guys.

Would you be able to go for an aggressive hairline later?which norwood are you and are you restricted by your donor area? Eugenix generally plants low hairlines

you are right I am convinced about what you said above. but if one can do fue first then can go for fut so I do not understand why people recommend do fut first then finish with fue and this should save additional 3000 grafts than do for fue first. As I understand from the people here the benefit of fut first  is to maximize the donor for the amount of grafts that would be available in the future. So I want to get clarification for my miss understanding.

Can some doctor advise on this please?

  8. 9 minutes ago, Fego said:

Yes you can go for fue first if they were small number of graft ex. 1500 graft and  tell the doctor that you want to do fut in the 2nd procedure so he will stay away from the fut area on the donor as he can not extrect from it. While if your first fue procedure is to extrect high number of grafts. I think it would be difficult for the doctor to untouch the fut area of extraction. I have the same thinking like you as I want to maximize my donor so I try to search about doctor who can use beard and chest hair extensively.

Even if they touch the permanent zone , what difference does it make? Fut can still be extracted from the remaining hair, the only thing is it would contain lesser hair. But the sum total of permanent hair would still be same eventually. Only difference would be that half were taken through fue and other half through fut

  9. Does it make any difference to first go with fue and then later use fut as a reserve?I don't see any problem with going fue first?even permanent hair gets thin and this comes from a doctor who does fut. Transplanted hairs do thin even if taken from permanent zone but do not fall out completely I believe. So finastride is still required. And another thing is that finastride is no gurantee for stabalisation, so being dependent on it as a long term strategy is not advisable.

I don't know much about Hattingen, but as for Bisanga and Eugenix, the fact that they can do a lot of beard grafts and use that in the hair transplant plan from the beginning rather than depleting your scalp donor and then using the beard hair as a last resort is part of the reason they are so good with high Norwood cases.

Beard grafts are limited by the number of scalp grafts you can get from donor. Probably you cant use more than 30 percent beard hair, so more scalp hair needed for more beard grafts. This means people who do fut will have more scalp grafts and consequently more beard grafts .so total for most people might go upwards of 10000 grafts.

Whoops you’re right – my point still stands for Eugenix. Why not FUT first then Eugenix if needed?

One more point to consider might be that eugenix can probably do more with less. So someone doing fut might achieve the same despite more number of grafts but one advantage of that is that the grafts still come from safe donor area. I am not sure how much of unsafe donor area comes into use when fue is used for higher Norwoods. Can someone comment on that?

  12. After some research, I have come to understand that fut is better than fue in grade 6 patients. Because fue depends a lot on unsafe donor area while fut is done mostly from saf donor area. This means fue results are far more dependant on finastride than fut. And longevity and long term planning is also good with fut. Also, I have heard fue can't provide as many grafts as fut.How much of eugenix results are from finastride because every patient is made to start that before transplant. My view is that in the long term ,our results should not be as dependant on finastride since it can stop working. So fut , where grafts are taken from permanent zone might be better for longevity.or perhaps a combination of fut and fue. That said, zoomster results are remarkable, even if they have to be sistained with finastride.

    Hi Cambro..

thanks for the good wishes ..I’d say my scalp hair is average thickness ..we didn’t do a micron test..my beard hair shafts  however are above average ..like a yard brush bristle ..

Im fully aware that even though I’ve now 11,600 grafts transplanted 8K of which is scalp to scalp ..I’ll still have to probably throw a dab of toppik here and there to finish the job off ..

from my own back of an envelope calculations back in 2019 I had 160 sq cm of bald scalp ..so using the magic 80 sq cm of original density pre balding that would mean I’d need 12,800 for pretty much optimal coverage ..

Im still 1,200 throughout the scalp shy ...

they are all very approximate numbers

I was also thinking my area is around 160 but probably it's much more like 300 in such cases . Our heads are curved and that makes it so much more than it appears. And I think u can't plant more than 45 ,forget about 80

IMHO, you are a little confused and contradictory:

you write: " the hair due to Minoxidil will shed off and give a better idea of the empty area" and in another post you write "
They don't experience anytjing negative when they leave it."

    a) do they experience hair loss, as you suppose in your first statement or they "don't experience anything negative" (i.e. hair loss), as you suggest in your second statement?

    b) all the doctors agree that you should be on therapy for a period before hair transplant. The first benefit you can get from a therapy is to reduce the number of transplanted grafts and get a better coverage/natural effect.
You are the first one I've ever read suggesting to get as bald as you can.

What's the final opinion on this? Can any doctors throw light on this point? Should minoxidil be left to go as bald as possible before HT? The thing is that if people start finastride ,as advised by doctors, after HT and leave minoxidil in case they were using prior to HT, then finastride is not going to save minoxidil dependent preexisting hair after HT is done. So doing Hair transplants with someone who has been using minixidil for years can be disastrous sometimes, I believe, even if you get them on finastride.
