  1. BrainFried,

Did you notice any bleeding when those came off? If you did not, then, IMO you didn't lose any grafts at all. Bleeding is usually the tell tale sign of a lost graft. And keep in mind, the bleeding should be pretty significant.

Judging by your recipient site at day 6, it looks like you've been incredibly gentle with your washing of the recipient area...that is causing a lot of prominent scabbing to occur. As you begin to get more comfortable with your washing habits, you will probably start to see more of these massive scab/hair globs coming off.

Again, if there was no bleeding, I think you are all set. Rest easy and happy growing to you bud.

  2. Whirlwind,

To be honest, I don't think I actually had any swelling above the scar. I think it was just that the left side of my head above the scar went numb. The right side didnt. Because it was numb and I couldn't feel it when I touched it, I assumed it was larger than the other side. I think my nerves, or lackthereof, were playing tricks on me.

I had my mom check (I know, shes the best :)) and she didnt feel any swelling. Are you experiencing any loss of sensation above the scar line? Perhaps its the same thing. If not, I think its not uncommon to get swelling. Just keep an eye on it and it should subside.

IMO you did the right thing and have a doc check it out. If the doctor said you were fine, I'd take their word for it.

    Rest easy bud:cool:

  3. Scar5,

I definitely understand what you're saying bud. DHT is what's causing this mess. DHT inhibitor drugs (fin) will help lower it and thus slow balding.

However, I still don't think that answers the poster's question. I dont think a DHT blood panel is an accurate way to access a person's hair loss or rate of hair loss.

So, if the guy gets his DHT taken and its very low...what does that mean? Nothing really, he could still bald, and bald fast because he is extremely sensitive to DHT....

He could get his DHT taken and it could be extremely high, and yet, he may see very little hairloss, or maybe no hair loss at all. Why? Because his genes couldn't care less and his hair loss is not sensitive to it.

I guess what I am trying to say here is that initial DHT identification, in my opinion, means nothing in terms of 'Am I going to bald?' or 'at what rate am I going to bald?' The only reason I would see this test beneficial is if you get a baseline DHT test, then take Fin and get your DHT tested again to see if it works for you...

I'd just hate the poor guy delay his use of medication because his DHT levels are low and he thinks hes okay....even though he's losing his precious hair.

  4. I could be wrong, but I thought DHT levels essentially mean nothing when using it as a indicator for determining if you will go bald or not. I was under the impression that it all comes down to your genes and how SENSITIVE your hair follicles are to DHT.

    For example:

Person A could have a very low level of DHT but their hair follicles are extremely sensitive to DHT. As a result, Person A will bald.

Person B could have a very high level of DHT but their hair follicles are not sensitive to DHT. As a result, Person B will not bald.

  5. Good luck bro!

    I access it this way

In the tool bar that has 'Your Info' (the same toolbar has the 'search' function), select the 'Your Info' link, then Under the 'Settings and Tools', click on the 'Edit your Signature'. Take the URL of your personal website journal and copy and paste it. If you want to put a text of your choosing that will link you to your website journal, then highlight the text you want to show, and click on the hyperlink button. (looks like a Globe with a paper clip)

  6. Have to return to work on Monday and am just about 2 weeks post op....unfortunately the donor area has hair shaved down from my HT, so I am going to need to cut my hair to even it out.

I don't want to cut too short such that I cannot conceal the scar with Dermmatch/Nanogen.

Could some of the vets with experience please let me know what grade buzz they used prior to going in public and successfully concealed their scar?

I know theres obvious variables in this equation (e.g. donor density, width of scar, redness of scar, etc) but lets just talk averages here.

I have T minus 3 days to figure this out. Thanks for your help guys!

  7. You mentioned that I'll be chasing hair loss all my life. I must disagree with you. For one, I got good genes in terms of hair regression. The only place I need a HT is in the front and temple area, thats all. My hair from the receding point beyond is thick, theres no problem there. And if a HT means "chasing hair loss," then why didnt that stop you and thousands of others from getting a HT in the first place?

And, whats the point of fighting HT with "everything i got" if propecia may cause erectile dysfuntion? Wheres the fun in enjoying a HT if sexual health is put to risk? That doesnt make sense. I WILL NOT use propecia EVER.. bottom line. With all due respect, i just dont understand the problem with someone refusing to take a medication thats known to cause serious sexual side effects.

    ..

    Taurus,

    How old are you?

    What Norwood level are you?

How long have you been losing your hair?

What is your family history of hair loss?

Please be aware that as much as we try to predict hair loss, the fact of the matter is, its so damn unpredictable. Both your grandfathers and great grandfathers could have NW1's, and you could unfortunately end up bald.

That's why I am a bit nervous with your view on Propecia. If you go into this battle with that mentality on it, I would seriously re-evaluate your game plan. You need to at least be open to the fact that you may want to take it if you see your hair loss progress. Again, just my two cents..
