  1. Hi.. just curious.. does anyone else get a mild burning sensation on the crown area were it is loosing hair ?? i know i do. Some days are worse than others. wish i could get rid of the sensation because its annoying. a mild burning itching sensation. does nizorel shampoo get rid of this sensation ? update on the piece. i bought a hair piece online. it matched my colour and texture but looked very thick and more hair than i have. I had it cut in but still its very thick. So im not sure. I was researching around the place and found a site that do "suction wigs". They use a thin layer of silicone. They also use untreated european hair. The hair piece i bought was using indian remy hair and in my research people say that "european untreated hair" is better for people like me with very fine hair. More natural looking. I also sent pics to a lady who does wigs and was recommended this also. so in the new year im waiting on a reply from a lady who does these "silicone suction based wigs" to see price etc. She has 25 years experience in wigs. I figured if im going to get it done i want to go somewhere who know what they are doing, a proffesional, and have it cut in properly. Nothing worse than a poor wig huh. So as soon as i get the reply it looks like im flying home for a few days to get something sorted out. its worth the time and money because currently im not happy. And i wont be happy until i have this hair loss problem resolved. thanks for the support everyone shall let you know how i get on.
  2. hi frank.. well done getting the medication. let me know how it goes if there is any side effects or shedding etc. i still have to find the time and courage to go to the doc yet. But i shall get there. but yeah let me know how you go once you start taking the medication. thanks for the update
  3. hi.. ive been doing research.. the swiss lace using tape piece looks good with human hair. Has a good hairline. In my research ive been advised that "clip ins" pull at your natural hair. Are uncomfortable especially to sleep in. Also have been told "clip ins" are not very secure. I see, and its a very good point, bob what you saying about hair peices are for some and not others and also to try it first. But I dont wish to be bald at the young age of 36 and after having long hair all my life im kinda used to it and would preffer to stay that way. Also where i live is very cold and yeah its cold already with thinning hair. So figure a piece may also keep my head warm as well as keep a youthful appearance. <sorry trying to make a joke, humour> I think ive found a good place in australia that sell pieces. They are a lot cheaper than two others places. One qouted me $1800. One qouted $1200 for a clip in. This place i found online, which i emailed and he emailed back with hepful information, sell hair peices for $500 and give a large selection of bases etc. Ive emailed him back with several other questions. I just want to do thorough research before diving in and shaving whats left there. At the moment im using nanogen nanofibres. They work good and conceal But im tired of it getting on my fingers now and then when i rub my head. Sometimes a bit can sprinkle out onto my forehead. Nothing bad but yeah just have to be warey to check them mirror to wipe it off so i dont look like ive been working in a coal mine. lol. I give nanofibres this much. I live on a small windy island and i was out the other day and it was blowing a gail and the fibres stayed in. I wasnt out for long but the wind was sure blowing a storm. I also figured that, if i possibly go down the swiss lace hair piece road, it would only bee a once a week detach, clean up and reattach routine. In time like anything i would get used to it and it would be a more semi permanant solution. Would also be nice to have a hairline again after all those years without having to grow long hair from the back and brushing it forward to have a pretend hairline. lol I will continue to do research and use nanofibres for the time being. Just would like to come up with a solution before i loose more up top. Which seems to be going fast and thinning out. So yeah basically would like to come up with a solution before im bald for awhile and then all of a sudden full head of hair. Would spin people out. But yeah you know what i mean. oops sorry.. another woffle season thanks for everyones help shall post when ive done more research etc
  4. bummer.. they only take visa i have mastercard damn
  5. hi.. can i ask several questions please ? 1. where is quality-rx ? is this in america ? 2. Is it safe to take proscar without seeking advice from a doctor first ? 3. Can you get proscar cheaper in australia if it is listed on the government cheaper medication scheme ? Or if you have a health care card can you obtain proscar cheaper with a script from a local doctor ? 4. If you dont mind me asking Mickey. Why are you desperate for proscar ? I to have to find time and the courage to go to my doctor and ask about proscar or propecia. I am also wondering if they will give me a script for this medication and if it will help. I am also curious, once you take this medication, how rapid and bad the shedding of current hair is ??.... I cant afford to shed much as what ive got only barely covers my thinning hair with the help of nanogen fibres. Sorry i dont wish to hijack the thread I am just curious about the answers to the questions. thanks all.. this forum helps a lot
  6. hi.. i would say norward 4 or 5.. i have pics of my disaster in the "hair piece" thread under "clip in". if what the consultant john said is true, im waiting on his reply to my question if it is a waste of time taking propecia and minox, i guess my only other option is a piece. I cannot afford 16,500 for a transplant. I wish. But as he said, i thank him for his honesty, that it could be a waste of time as more loss will happen and i wont be satisfied with the result. hair loss is most frustrating. Especially when you wake up each morning thinking about it. Also when its on your mind most of the time and constantly checking the mirror. So yeah thats why im thinking of just biting the bullet and going with a hair piece as i dont have the balls to shave my head and im ugly enough without doing so. anyway thanks for everyones advice. I may still look into propecia next week. See what happens i guess. oh before i go .. hey frank.. got a question for you.. proscar.. is that on the PBS.. meaning is it cheaper because its subsidized by the government ?... or is it always full price ? thanks
  7. Hi Bob. thanks for your advice. i will take your advice and do so. im nervous how it will look and if people will notice. But i guess i can only try. got a question bob : I was advised that european virgin hair was best for fine hair that would suit mine best ??... Is this true ?... or is indian hair just as fine and good to use ? i read on another forum that you know of places online that sell quality pieces. could you please private message me with links to some of these websites. thank you sir
  8. Hi All.. thanks frank for getting back to me.. i asked John from NHI about propecia after sending him pics of my head. this is what he sent back ----- In answer to your questions, it is not too late to see an increase in density using medication. However the older you are, the less likely you are to see a visual improvement. I would not expect to see much of an increase in density using either Propecia or Minoxidil. Perhaps an improvement within your crown may be noticed. If you are lucky the front and mid scalp may improve a little. I have seen a number of patients using medication see a noticeable increase in density but it is usually within the mid scalp and crown. We don't tend to see the hairline thicken up on medication. Some patients will notice increased shedding on these medications which can last for 8 weeks. If it keeps going for longer than it is best to stop it completely. You will have to see your local GP to obtain a prescription for Propecia. Every chemist sells it. We do offer it at NHI but we can not offer it someone that has never been into the clinic. John ------ in reply i asked him if its worth trying and if hes basically saying not to bother either 1.my age of 36 isnt worth taking the drugs or 2. my condition is to bad. im waiting on his reply thanks all
  9. Hi.. I totally agree... 16,500 is very serious cash .. especially if I need 1 or more transplants. He did say in the email that. About dissapointment after spending such money. At least he was very very honest. Im going to go to the doctor myself, and as John from NHI advised, im going to try propecia. Im curious but i dont know if its the wonder drug. But i shall stay positive and try it out. I have tried minoxidol twice and it makes my hair very greasy and uncomfortable. So i will see the doctor and ask about propecia and try it. I will stick with it for over 12 months and see how i go. Its an option and hey i may as well try it. The website you linked me, chemist warehouse, etc have propecia etc. Just need to obtain a script from the doctor which wont be hard at all. Especially if you explain what its for and they can look it up on the computer. This whole loosing hair thing is very very distressing huh. If i was 56 i would say oh well im old. But 36 isnt old and it sux bad. So yeah i will try propecia for over a year and see how it goes. Shall see my doctor this week. Sad fact is that a peice maybe in need in the not to distant future and im unsure and nervous about that. No doubt it will look obvious and i shall feel like a goose. I guess i could try it out and see how it looks. Its only 1000k instead of 16k. Anyway shall let you all know. thanks for the reply frank... let me know how you go at the doctors. I shall let you know also. thanks all have a great day
  10. Hi.. i got a reply from National Hair institude Melbourne, Australia.. i hope its ok to cut and paste on here and doesnt bend the rules. If so let me know and sorry in advance. here is a copy of the email i got. Frank maybe interested. ----------------------- My name is John Mandic and I am the Client Counsellor at the National Hair Institute. I have reviewed your photos and can see that your hair loss is in the moderate stages and that most of the thinning has occured within the front half of your scalp. Whilst you may possibly appear to be a candidate for a hair transplant my recommondation would be the you consider trialling hair loss medication for a year. Minoxidil lotion (Rogaine or Hair A-Gain) can be obtained from any chemist over the counter. Finasteride (Propecia or Proscar) can be obtained with a script from your Doctor. Go to www.propecia.com for more information about it. I recommend that after doing your research, that you trial at least one of the two medications listed above for 12 months and to let us know how it is going. My biggest concern is that if you have a transplant now and you continue to find the rest of your hair thinning, you will not remain happy for long. If you wished to transplant the front half of your scalp, it would take about 3000 follicular unit grafts (around 6000 total hairs) and this would cost $16,500. Please do email me if you have any further questions. Sincerely, ---------------------------- I thought it may of been about 7 or 8 grand.. but 16k... wow... i fell off my chair. I dont have that kinda cash. So im going to book an appointment with my doctor and ask about propecia. I am going to also email back John and ask more about propecia. Frank, have you been to see your doctor about propecia as yet ?? Let me know how you went. Thanks all..
  11. ok awesome.. it will hopefully arrive this week.. cant wait to try it... ive put up with the itchyness and inflamed feeling on my scalp for months now and its driving me completely nuts. i will post the results when i try out the shampoo thanks so much for the help and advice much appreciated
  12. top of head that also shows the back without a part down the middle i was advised by another place, a salon, who seem to specialise in hair extensions and clips ons. They have pics on there site of work they have done which look great. That the best idea for me would be to shave the entire top of my head and put in place a piece using russian hair and tape it on. i dont know which is the best solution to be honest as ive never done anything like this before. look forward to everyones helpful opionions thanks all
  13. another top of head shot .. showing fron and back without a big part down the middle
  14. Hi.. I was advised by an independent old guy whose been doing hair pieces since 1969 that i would be better off getting a piece that is clip on. I forgot to ask, out of nerves, and he didnt tell me how much maintanence it would require and how often i would have to replace it. He did say that indian human hair is the best. he made a template and took a hair sample. i havent given him the green light to order it yet as i dont know much about clip on hair peices. he took a template of the entire top of my head. i have quite good hair on the sides of my head. the front hairline is gone and the back is heavily thinning. He said it would be clipped on the sides... back and to the tuft which is left on the front of my head. He said it could also be taped on the front. But i was thinking how secure with the clips can this thing stay on ? like if i bent down or upside down i guess the thing would flop down and look kinda silly. I dont know. But otherwise he was honest and good. He only does peices for private already existing clients. The only way i found him was from the phone book in which he was amazed i found it. So he wasnt in for major profit or whatever. I guess since hes been doing that kinda thing for a long time he would know what hes on about? but yeah my main question for anyone whose worn a clip on hair system... would be .. what it like ??.. if it reliable ?.. or does it come off or rip off easy ? i just wanted to ask some questions from an experienced person before i go ahead and order the piece and buy it. i know i have to do something about my hair loss in the next few months and just want to explore all avenues. i will place pics of the top of my head. thanks
