  1. Pay peanuts and you get monkeys.

This is ugly, insensitive, and overall wrong. Turkey has so many clinics that competition brought the prices down. Even the best doctors among them charge much less than those in the US. Dr. Maral's technicians worked on me patiently for hours and got me as good work as they could. Not only that I don't regret going with them, but I now think that the prices in the industry are way overblown, taking advantage of people who use their entitlement to pay too much for their surgery.

  2. 1. It's hard to tell without pictures. As for whether you need it, no one really *needs* a HT. It's whether you want to do it. IMHO low Norwood II cases should not jump to surgery because they can easily conceal their hair loss with hairstyle and aggressive reconstruction can cost them in the future with the progress of the loss. Higher classes (III-V) should be careful about the surgeon they choose because they need to match the new with existing hair. We in the NW VI-VII range don't have much to lose any more so our goals are necessarily a bit different.

    2. I'd say it is as good in the hands of a good surgeon, but you've just opened Pandora's box of this forum.

    3. Check out the "Recommended Physicians" section on here.

    4. Lorenzo, Bisanga, Feriduni, Doganay, Erdogan are all among the best FUE surgeons available.

  3. I found that post op time went by SO SLOW. The best thing that you can do is stay out of the mirror.

Ha, that's a good one. For some hypothetical perfect people maybe, but I am a regular 2x a day, checking every side, combing (this little hair that I have, it's pathetic, I know), applying Minoxidil.

OP: Interestingly, I also felt bad at 4 month mark. I blamed it on Finasteride but now I'm beginning to think it was the post-op depression you're talking about. After month 5, when I started seeing progress and felt better about the way my hair looks, everything improved, including Finasteride, which now doesn't seem to cause any trouble.

Perhaps it's some 4 month thing?

  4. Thanks Gillenator! In the meantime I reduced Fin to 1 mg every two days for about two weeks, and then I'm back on regular 1 mg a day since about two weeks ago, and the side effects seem to have receded. Today is exactly 3 months since I started it.

I see about 10 miniaturized hairs shedding almost every day when I comb my hair (have I mentioned that I have something to comb now? :) ) and hope it is a good sign. Maybe I am making things up but I do already notice an improvement, especially in my crown.

  5. I used the machine but tried to be extra careful and not to touch the scalp (I only pressed on the sides and back and cut the top almost without touching). The redness depends on your complexion, normally it is visible for the first 3 months or so, sometimes less. Hat is always an option, although it may interfere with pimples many people have and perhaps cause more redness. I wore hat during receptions and such, but took it off at work most of the time, fortunately I only worked in small groups back then. I also stopped caring at some point, everyone needs to pass through the "ugly duckling" phase after HT. Also, the redness is only visible in strong light from above, otherwise it is completely undetectable, e.g. when going out in the evening. Hope this helps

  6. In all sincerity, I hate advice of the type "if you're confident, you can have every girl". How can you be self-confident if you're profoundly unhappy with your look? It is a recommendation for personality disorder.

On topic: First, buzz your hair. For advanced hair loss, letting your hair grow ends up in a mess. You have a good head shape and buzzing would improve your look immediately.

Second, if you want more hair, get on therapy. Minoxidil and Propecia really work and can produce visible to dramatic results (everything else is snake oil). Generic versions are not expensive at all and come to about $10 a month in total.

Third, consider traveling to Turkey or India for a hair transplant (I think India might be more convenient from Australia, but Turkish doctors seem to have more consistent results). Both countries have some really good and affordable doctors, and you can find some recommendations on this website.

Four, find some new people to hang out with. If you're avoiding your friends that can only mean you don't feel comfortable around them. Training and more activity outdoors might also help. But if you are feeling really down, consider talking to a therapist too.

  7. OK, now I see what you mean by density (pic. 5, from above). Honestly it doesn't look like a big deal to me, many people naturally have somewhat thinner areas around their scalp. The important thing is that the hairline and the overall impression gives the look of a full head of hair. Also, fortunately not many people look at us from above :) Have you been on any medication?

Again, congratulations, and thanks for all the updates and communication!
