  1. What you are 'suffering' is horrible! When people have a full head of hair or near enough they do not know how it feels to lose this and it mentally affects everyone different. The irony of modern life is that people will more readily accept a man who embraces or reveals his baldness by having the confidence to display it than a man who tries to tone it down with a comb over or concealer!... although many bald men may not be as comfortable revealing it as they may make out. But you cannot win as they will slag you whatever you do Ht's may not work if someone continues to lose all their hair to the point of a 'horse shoe' effect, and then you don't have the option of shaving it down due to the scar or scars
  2. Guys, Would any of you know how to spot someone wearing a modern wig? They are supposed to be so good now that apparently it is very difficult to tell the difference. I know this 44 year old guy at work and I often wonder if he is wearing a very good system because his hair at the fringe always seems to be the same length. It is quite a floppy fringe of coarse hair and neatly shorn in round the sides, but although I might only see him once every 2 weeks i never notice a difference in length. Also, the thing that aroused my curiousity was when on at least one occasion, before I even wondered if he wore a wig, I happened to joke about my receding hair line and he changed the subject quite quickly rather than comment on it. I would never wear one anyway as I would rather shave the head totally and 'come out' as a baldie. I could be wrong and maybe he is just very lucky and he does not have a hint of grey. His hairline seems to be almost too boyish for his age. Any thoughts?
  3. Joker28 I am not clear if you have just had the HT or are planning to but you pose the question I would be asking my surgeon if I was going to have my first HT. As I have not had one yet I cannot really give any proper advice but I guess you cannot use anything you would rub into the scalp less than 10 to 14 days after the HT, although hair fibres should be ok given they only cling to the hair strands. You have to have quite a bit of hair though for these to work properly otherwise you just see them sitting on the scalp. My fear after a possible HT is that the scalp will still be inflamed and red for more than a week after it and then shock loss will cause existing hair to shed weeks later making it impossible to distract attention from my hair! If I have a HT I intend to stay off work for 2 weeks and lie low. You hear of patients going to work a day or 2 later without being noticed but they must not have been shaved and have little scabbing. To be certain ask your Doc if you can use concealers.
  4. Now that is scary! Do you not grow your hair much longer than a no 2 or 3? I was led to believe that the redness subsides after a few days and scabs etc are gone after a week! If your existing hair can be draped over the balding areas I thought it was not so easy to spot. Look at Jimmy Nesbitt appearing at a TV awards ceremony just a day or 2 after his HT and not a sign of the redness even in the public eye!
  5. Thanks very much for the info, Does he require the head to be shaved? I know it is usually better to work with a shaved area but it certainly gives the game away unless you can lie low for 2 weeks. As I would be flying from Dublin I would have to stay overnight and time it to given days just for the consultation due to there not being the same volume of flights that you can get from London Where you able to keep a hat on going through the airports and on the flight?
  6. Hi Did you have a FUT or FUE? Did you get the staples out in UK and does he use dissolvable ones? What sort of price is it per graft? Is the wait for surgery long? Some clinics like Farjo have 3 to 4 months waiting times. Sorry for all the questions but I'm interested in possibility of first HT with Saifi as he seems to operate a more personal service than the top clinics while still being as good. It seems that as the other top surgeons including Farjo are well established and so busy they do not help with setting up arrangements for travel to consults or are not bothered whether you are coming from a distance or not. 7. cost me ?325 and as it was supposed to be FDA approved I thought it was bound to have at least some small benefit. Well, I used it for 3 years and it did nothing for me but cause the odd burn mark on my head even though I used it totally in line with instructions just a few minutes a week. I don't think any of the top clinics recommend it as part of anti baldness non surgical treatment! I do not know why the FDA approved it for hair regrowt. I wonder what veterans of the Ht business make of the study which the laser comb makers used to win FDA approval?
  8. I am thinking of a consult with Dr Farjo as if he can do as good a job as the best surgeons in the world then it would be much more convenient for me to fly to Manchester from Belfast rather than to Belgium or New York. I note he takes your blood pressure if over 40 so although mine is normal its likely to be high by the time it gets taken in consultation just by the whole stress of flying over alone, taking taxis etc and all for the embarrrassment of having my baldness exposed and examined! Anyone with experience of Dr Farjo, good or bad? I am avoiding Blackrock clinic in Dublin as their costs are around 3 times or more greater than the best clinics and the consultation fee there is around ?200 or 250 euro. How can thoses sort of costs be justified, is this also not exploiting people's desperation to overcome balding? Ailesbury clinic Dublin is cheap but then they charge per the single hair extraction for even large procedures. Can you imagine the amount of donor hairs they would lose in contrast to FUT or even FUE procedures where the follicle is extracted rather than single hair?
  9. Ailesbury clinic talks about extracting one hair at a time rather than the entire follicle, Is that possible and if so why are all the top FUE clinics not using this method? Their consultation involves a nurse/sales person who does not take photos of the hair and you do not get to sit down and spend time with the doctor who is going to do your procedure until the actual day you are going ahead with it! Their main doctor is Dr Marmagiolis liised for ISHRS. Anyone know of his work?. The costs are very low comparatively and if you compare with the Blackrock clinic Dublin, charge only about 20% of what Mr Collins charges for the more invasive strip procedure! Why is Adee Phelan hair dresser to the celebs singing the praises of Ailesbury and going on about how fantastic they are? Why is Blackrock probably the most expensive Hair Clinic in the world? It charges 10 euro per graft for strip only with no reductions for larger numbers, yet it still has a waiting list of several months just to get a consultation! Ailesbury still seems to be doing HTs everyday 6 days a week. Do people not realise you only get one shot at this as you cannot get the donor follicles back...ever!...and you may pay more for correctional work, so it had better be perfect first time!
