  1. Hey all, just checking in, havent been on this site for awhile but my year anniversary is around the corner and i figured id update. I am still thrilled with the work dr feller has done, this really was one of the best decisions i have made. The transplanted hair continues to thicken and day by day it continues to look better. The only thing is the front 1/3 remains much shorter than the rest of my hair but continually with haircuts im able to blend it in fine and in time it will look alright. But compared to where i was a year ago i have zero complaints. my surgery was march 26. 2012, around this time last year I was a hermit, staying in my apt. worrying what was going to happen with this surgery, i was a nervous wreck...now I can say that my hair is not holding me back anymore from living life, and for that I owe a huge debt of gratitude to dr. feller and his staff, as well as everyone on this board who helped me on this journey.

  2. . He wants to do the strip method, which I thought no one was doing anymore.

He wrote up a paper for me, that says I need a range of 1500 to 2000 grafts, he'd do it in one sitting, with a total cost of 6250 to 7250. Which is much better, but still more than I can sadly afford. I'm looking into loan

DO NOT GO TO THIS DR!!!!

I just saw your pics and re-read this. I'm not trying to be rude but with your advanced loss there is no way 1500 or 2000 grafts will do you a lot of justice. I think every guy on this board will agree with me that your at least in the 3000-4000 range. If need be take Amtrak down to NYC. The regional train is less than 100 each way and you won't have to take your hat off for security purposes. All you would need is to get a hotel/motel the night before and night of surgery and next day your back on train to Boston. All together that is probably $500. You could do it even cheaper if you take the Chinatown buses, each way the fare is 15. Trust and believe that going to NYC is by far a better option. Any great doc can look at your photos and deduce that 1500-2000 ain't gonna get you very far. This guy is a fraud

  3. Both distefano and Leonard advertise heavily in Boston area. Right away I'd be wary of any docs that advertise. I believe the best ads come from word of mouth, and the best word of mouth on ht docs is this board. NYC has a bunch of great docs. Consult with dr feller, dr Bernstein, true and dorin, dr Wesley....a 4 hour drive for a great ht far outweighs shoddy work for a shorter commute and a couple bucks saved

  4. A quick google search shows dr boland was writing marijuana prescriptions 2 years ago. I hope this might be wrong and maybe it'd a different dr boland? Nothing wrong in my view in writing prescriptions for ganja, just not sure if one can be truly dedicated to the art of hair restoration. On the bright side, having a stash after surgery could be a great alternative pain killer. It worked for me...Good luck man

  5. Hi All

So over the past maybe 2-3 years I've seen a slight receding of my hairline. As I approach my 25th birthday I'm noticing it more and more, and figure it's time to see what I can do. It's not super noticeable yet, but as I keep reading prevention / early intervention is better than waiting.

Just a bit of back story on me, both my father and his father have very typical MPB. My dad, who 55, is probably ~ a 5 on the Norwood-Hamilton scale. My grandfather (dad's dad) is a definite 7. My grandfather on my mother's side also has a significant amount of "baldness" although not nearly to the extent of my dad's father (maybe a 4A, not sure).

I attached a couple pictures (before and after a haircut). I'm either at or approaching a 2 on the N-H scale, so really the question is what are the best options for slowing the progression.

As far as I can tell from my reading options are limited to going on fin and maybe trying minoxidil (varying reports on effectiveness for hair line). I'm rather wary of going on fin, especially at my age. I figured before I got in touch with a dermatologist I'd see what advice you fine folks might have

    thanks :D

Many on this board will tell you to try fin and/or rogaine. Unfortunately both these may not be very effective on the hairline but most likely will help with crown area. You may at a later point in time want to get a ht to restore front 1/3. But you do have a good amount of hair so I wouldnt stress too much

  6. If you dont mind me asking, how old are you guys? I think if you are relatively young being open about a HT is not so easy. When you are in your 40's and 50's I guess it is inevitable for most people, but when most of the people around me don't have hairloss issues it does become a bigger deal imho.

Additionally I am a manager with 30 people under me, mostly women. I'd rather not be the butt of jokes or be perceived as being vain/sensitive/insecure.

I'm 35 and run my own business with 30 or so people under me as well. I have not been open at all with employees of mine. I don't believe anyone of them thinks or suspects anything, given I always wore hats or bandanas to work and my hair loss was not particularly bad prior to ht.

  7. obviously I would never do a "bosley" procedure but I just heard so many horror stories of the scar being so big or noticeable. does the fut procedure yield a better result definitely the price is a lot more appealing but im just so nervous and confused that's why I joined this forum

Fut in general yields better. I personally feel fut may give you a better yield, but there are many cases where fue can rival fut as far as yield. Fut is the standard at this point. However, the price is a factor for some, and fue can get pretty expensive the more grafts you need. Personally, my Scar has been a total non issue. You can't see it and you'd have to search for awhile before you could definitively find it. good luck to you on your journey, and definitely don settle for the "best deal around"

  8. I've been lurking around this board for quite sometime now and have seen at least half a dozen cases of guys wo got butchered by bosley. Like others have stated, there might be some decent docs at bosley but you'll never know who your going to get. Stay away.

  9. When my hair loss began, believe me i have researched, rearched and researched some more and still seem no closer but really feel i am ready, never had to put my trust into surgery before so i understand how massive the choice can be:confused:

Did you guys know once you met your Doctor it was the right choice? although they is still a risk?

spex your opinion is valued and your advice in the past has been invaluable so much appreciated.

    regards.

I echo tommylucchese. Once I had my consult with dr feller I knew based on how knowledgable he is that he's the guy to fix my dome. However nothing will keep you from being a nervous wreck before the surgery...

  10. I think the people that promote fue do so due to the pros of faster recovery time and the ability to buzz down in the future.

Why did you shave down your transplanted hairs?

    Who did your surgery?

Dr feller did my surgery. I did not shave down my transplanted hairs, the recipient area was shaved prior to transplantation so the hair I had there (not much, but enough to conceal a fair amount of scalp) was gone. There are docs who don't shave but I think a lot of the top docs do shave recipient

  11. There are a couple things about concealing your ht. is the doc your going to going to shave your recipient? If so than I'm assuming your frontal third will be gone anyway so your probably better off shaving head. If that's the case than with fut, your scar will show for a few months unless you can rock some sort of combover/comb forward. With fue, the doc will shave the back of your head so it'll look bizarre if you don't shave your entire head.

With my ht there really was no way I could conceal it well until 2 1/2 months later. But that was for me. The truth is there are many guys on here who hide it well and others who cannot. I was lucky I was able to wear a hat or bandana to work everyday. I personally feel thats kind of a toss up for every guy who undergoes a ht whether or not they'll be able to hide it well. Also, are you fair skinned or dark skinned? If your fair skinned the recipient area can remain pink for a couple months as well. I hope this info helps and good luck with your journey

  12. This site is pretty open and it seems like most of the doctors go through a period where everyone questions their results...and the doctor has to stick it out and keep posting. I saw it happen with me (east coast) and a couple of guys on the west coast.

There are good doctors on both coasts and in the middle. You don't have to pick geographically anymore than you have to choose between Biggie and Tupac.

    Dr. Lindsey McLean VA

    Biggie all day!

  13. thank you once again for your replies guys. much appreciated.

cant decide your hair transplant is fantastic, i followed your procedure and was very impressed:)

The truth is if i could afford to go Rahal or Feller and have FUE with them i would however in all honesty i cant afford and probably wont be able to for a long time so my research is now focused on finding a Doctor who i can probably afford and give similar results....differcult challenge i know:confused:

    regards.

Hey man, if you feel rahal or feller is the doc for you than save your money and go see them in the future. If you can find a doc that you're comfortable with and save some cash that's great, but don't settle for the doc you don't want just cause he/she is cheaper.
