  1. thanks all. good luck. i was skeptical for a while after. and worried. but then one day i noticed things were looking pretty good. cool. wish it had been cheaper though. man that recession hit right after. jeez.
  2. hairIsThere, I think it's just that my hairline was still there. it was pretty much horseshoe other than than. thinned rather than receded, ya know. Bill, you said in my blog that there were no before pics. the 3day post op pics show the same amount of hair since you can't really see where he put them in. what's wrong with that for comparison?
  3. male. just the female pattern best describes what it looked like b4.
  4. see, this is why i don't come on here. no feedback.
  5. journal updated. what do you guys think? the camera isn't as good, but honestly, you're not missing anything. i'm very happy. why do i keep getting logged out, btw?
  6. i think you're wrong about hypertophic scaring people. I have tons of scars from when I was little. On my head in particular, I have a couple on my eyebrow and one nasty one on my chin. I also still have dents and lumps in my ears from when they were pierced with a 10 gauge 8 years ago. Now, I recently had a strip with a trico/"ledge" closure, got the stitches out yesterday, and even though my hair was cut down in the area to less than a 1/4in to aid in suture removal, i have trouble finding the scar in the mirror ... even with the suture holes still a bit scabbed! My opinion is that your scar depends almost entirely on the skill of your surgeon. But if you're one with nasty keloid scarring, a strip isn't right, of course. Look for pics in a few weeks. I'm sure that in a month, I won't be able to detect it at a #2 guard. But you'll have to wait on that picture until next summer. Of course I guess you might mean that the scar being seen below a #2 gaurd is unacceptable, but why would that be? I mean, what, you're going to go get a transplant and shave it ALL off? I don't think so. cheers
  7. There's probably some better docs in NYC than those at MHR. In fact, I'm sure of it. You need to research more. Good luck.
  8. Added some pics of what the donor area looks like 7 days post op with hair still under a #4 guard. This is with sutures in.
  9. Thanks, Bill. I just wish the journey wasn't so long. I'm out of meds ... now I wait. Can I itch it? Should I? I just want to touch what's there? Oh man. Still so far away. Check the mirror? Nah. Just wait. Just wait. Just wait. Check the mirror? Nah. Just wait. Heh. I can't wait.
  10. I have recently had Rose's ledge. Hopefully mine turns out well. I'll keep ya posted.
  11. My doc, Paul Rose, has recently published a paper about rogaine after transplant. i think the conclusion was something along the lines of: the merits of the minox are outweighed by the deleterious effects of the alcohol in the mixture -- at least for the first week or so.
  12. mine was about half yours, but i have no tightness at all. In fact, there's still some laxity. I was pretty lax to begin with though. I would call the doc. Good luck. I hope your scar doesn't stretch.
  13. thanks all expect some pics in the coming week. i've got a bit of minimal swelling today -- 3days post.
  14. i can't speak about all of them, but those at dr. rose's office were very professional. they also had a good rapport with rose, and i could tell they'd worked with him many times before. laura has been with him for more than 15 years i think. and that's important. overall, they are absolutely crucial to a quality result.
  15. He seems to really push the FIT procedure ... as if he came up with it ... as though it were only way to go. he also doesn't seem to understand the benefits of trico closure, or else he just denies them so he can push "his" FIT. His posts also strike me as juvenile and hardly professional. I can see why he and rose parted ways. Does Rassman associate with cole anymore? Hmm. He's not an innovator. He rarely publishes. He may be a good doctor at the end of the day, but his ethics strike me questionable. whenever he's challenged on his claims about the trico closure, he mysteriously disappears. He also talks bad about Pat on other forums. He claims the coalition docs aren't any better than bosley docs; they just pay pat. whether they pat or not, the docs on recommended here are innovators and excellent.
  16. Well after lurking on this site for a few years, I finally went through with a transplant. Dr. Rose was everything I expected, and the staff was very friendly. I felt safe and in good STEADY hands. I can barely see the sutures, and my hair is about 1/2 inch long. Rose is pretty sure that I will be able to shave down to a 1/4 inch (#2)or even lower after the sutures come out and the hair starts growing though the ledge closure. So I'm excited about that. I was a diffuse thinner with a good solid hairline and pretty see through on top (almost female pattern). I started propecia about a month ago (which I can tell is going to do something given the mild shed), and the 2200 grafts should fill things nicely. I'll still have a bit of a bald spot on the crown if propecia doesn't do it's magic or unless i get more transplants down the line. But i'm okay with that. Mainly i just wanted to appear full on top and have a minimal scar. Looking at how many hairs actually went in (nearly 5000) and how much laxity there was in my scalp, the doctor and I expect my goals to be met and even exceeded. I'll put the pre-op pics up on a weblog when I get them from laura (the head tech), and I'll try to keep some new pics up at least every month to show progress. Anyone is free to contact me via pm if you have any questions. I know how stressful the decision can be, but if you get the right doctor, there is really nothing to worry about. Overall, by day 2, aside from some pinkness and some tiny follicles in my head, i can barely tell anything was done. But I feel a lot better about the future. I can't see regretting it ever. Thanks to Pat and the coalition community for all the information available on this site.
