Senior Member Smoothy Posted November 14, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted November 14, 2008 Welcome to the site. Like you I had several HT back in the early 90's that were done by one of the best in the business before he retired in mid 90's (Dr Norwood). Results were great for back then when all the Plugs are noticable and mine were mini/micro which looked good--BUT nothing compared to todays perfected Microscopic FU's! I went to Dr. Shapiro and he made my hairline look 100% natural and I will go back to him in 5-10 yrs if needed for fill in. I highly recommend Dr Ron Shapiro from personal experience with the exact same profile as you have. Senior Member stamos Posted November 14, 2008 Author Senior Member Share Posted November 14, 2008 I would like to thank all members who posted for their friendly replies and support, especially Dewayne and Eman who replied to any silly question from my side. Now my next step will be to research a couple of weeks at max, to find a the most suitable doctor for old transplant repair then arrange formalities, like air-tickets, hotel accommodation etc. Nevertheless I have 3 more questions, if you don't mind: 1. Suppose I select one of the top doctors available, like Dr. Shapiro for example, from the date that I agree with everything and decide to proceed with the repair surgery, then in how long, approximately, they schedule will be my surgery? I mean 2 months 4 months or so? 2. If I return in Athens 2 days after the surgery, who will remove the stitches? I mean of course I won't return to U.S. just to remove stitches, but do I have to go to a local hair clinic or just a normal doctor will be fine? 3. If I choose a big clinic like Hasson & Wong, then I will have surgery with Dr. Hasson or Dr. Wong, or these doctors will just supervise the operation and there are other doctors who actually effect the surgeries? Thanks
Senior Member Eman Posted November 14, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted November 14, 2008 love to help stamos! 1. Timing for scheduling depends on availability. Typically the top docs are booked several months out before there is any opening. So you are probably looking at early next year if you are looking for a set time. If you have flexibility in your schedule, docs may have a cancellation list that you can get on and open spots become available from time to time. 2. A local clinic, nurse, or doctor can remove sutures without a problem. If you are concerned for any reason about any of these, a plastic surgeon is an option. 3. All the top docs will be part of your surgery. From removing the donor strip to making the incisions for all the grafts. From there some do place some of the grafts with techs, while some use techs to place the grafts and supervise this part of the procedure. Most of the techs in the top docs offices have been with the doctor for many years. My initial HT thread: done and done!! Check it out...
Senior Member Predator Posted November 15, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted November 15, 2008 As I live in Munich I post on a German Forum. I hear a lot about Heitmann, Hattingen Hair and Bisanga in Europe. my reseach was 18m long and I decided if I was going to do this I wanted it done either by Hasson and Wong Shapiro or Rahal my advice to you would be to pay for the best and travel where they are My Hair Loss Website - Hair Transplant with Dr. Rahal
Senior Member stamos Posted November 16, 2008 Author Senior Member Share Posted November 16, 2008 Thanks predator, I decided to travel to US or Canada. Which one of these 3 you recommend for repair of old transplant?
Senior Member Predator Posted November 16, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted November 16, 2008 It's a hard one stamos I'm a Rahal patient at 2.5 Months, so as I said I'm in the worst phase. I don#t know what my result will be but I know I went to one of the best. When you go to a strange land for a HT you need more than just a good Doctor, you need an environment that you feel comfortable in, after the operation and during the days you have to spend in the hotel. You don't want to be stared at our laughed at with your blue operation hat What I liked about Rahal and Ottawa was everybody was friendly, knew the score and couldn't have cared less. You get the same Taxi driver who takes you to the Clinic for your daily check ups. I don't know what it's like with Shapiro or Hasson and Wong, but with Rahal I felt I was with friends from the airport to the hotel, the surgery and the way back to Munich. All the Canadians made it so easy for me. If the winter wasn't so bad I'd move there My Hair Loss Website - Hair Transplant with Dr. Rahal

Senior Member stamos Posted December 3, 2008 Author Senior Member Share Posted December 3, 2008 Hi just an update: I am very close to arrange a repair with Dr Shapiro on January. As I am from Europe, I was looking for a thread with tips/advices for patients who travel from Europe to US for transplant, but I cannot find it now. It was a thread with a list of tips, like how to react when you will be asked to remove your hat at the airport searching. Can you point it our for me?
