Topical Finasteride Spray Dosages

Hey everyone,

Just wondering what you all make of the dosage recommendations of many of the topical finasteride companies? Many here in the UK contain 0.2-0.3% finasteride, which means per 1ml suggested dosage, you’re effectively exposed to 2-3mg of finasteride. This seems insanely high, and completely pointless if the whole idea is to avoid some of the systemic side effects.

I’ve wondered whether just lowering the dosages when first trying the products is a sensible idea, and where you guys would suggest starting?

Also just wanted to say that this forum has helped tremendously when researching how to go about treating my hair. I was always under the impression I could get a hair transplant and be done with it, but it seems I was naive. Anyway…

Phase I-II studies of finasteride 0.25% topical solution in male volunteers demonstrated that a once daily application of up to 200 µL (4 sprays of 50 µL, each delivering 0.144 mg/spray to non-overlapping areas) exerted a maximal effect on scalp DHT concentrations with less reduction of serum DHT compared with higher doses.

Scalp absorption should also be lower when compared to oral intake.
