Dr.Couto FUEXPERT first consultation

Hi folks,

I am writing my first ever post on this forum.

I wanted to share my personal experience and also get some feedbacks. I live in Vancouver, BC. I was on DR.Couto 's waiting list for about 18 months before being able to see him in person in Madrid, that's why last week I flew out to Europe to be able to meet him.

DR.Couto seems to be a very genuine guy, I stayed with him for about 1 hour. This doctor's time is precious and I really enjoyed chatting with him and his vision of hair restoration. I have been thinking about a HT since about 4-5 years now, I am NW3 type a, not very severe hair loss but enough for it to bother me on a daily basis and decide to go see a specialist.

He showed me so many examples of previous patients with similar patterns and donor area as me, he has done so many pro football players and even showed me their pictures which made me feel super comfortable that he was so transparent.

He quoted 2600 grafts, and mostly to rebuilt my temples. He told me I have a medium to dense donor area which is great for coverage. I would need only one intervention in my whole life according to him if I stay on medication.

Few things I would like to discuss, he told me that for my type of hair loss, only frontal and temples, I shouldn't use minox, he thinks it is useless. I am a bit scared to stop it and shade more, I was even thinking of switching to oral minoxidil to see if I could achieve better results..

Also, in his protocol he implements PRP sessions at 1 month, 3 months and then every 3 months until 1year mark. Does anyone know a good PRP location in Vancouver, or how to find a good PRP location nearby so I could follow his protocol to obtain the best results ?

Cheers.

Surgery is not booked yet, I paid 50% of the total amount already but I am not sure on when to do the procedure, need to work my schedule out but most likely after summer 2024.

Ask yourself how important the hair transplant is to you. With the best Doctor in the industry? If I were you, I would make myself prepared for September!

God I have been thinking about it the whole day. Problem is that I live in Canada, and already took quite some time off to be able to have the first in person consultation and kinda planned everything out for the surgery to be 1 year after that consultation.

one side of me just wants to get it done and not think about it anymore, other part of me thinks I should stick to my plan and not rush it and organize my trip for next year..

there is nothing to prepare. buy tickets go in september.

dont try to overthink. you will find a prp place, and lets be honest prp is not going to make or break the result.

if you go in september by summer 2024 you will be enjoying your new hair. if u go in 2024 you will not enjoy it till 2025

How much is he charging you if you mind me asking? Price Quote?

2600 grafts quoted, needs temple work done so 4.5€/graft

quote - 11700€

if you don’t need temple work it’s 4€ per graft

Oh wow, he didn't even mention the PRP bit to me, though I may have missed it because my Spanish comprehension needs a bit of work.

If you can make it work, take the earlier date though I personally picked a date in May because winters tend to be a bit drier and I wanted some moisture for my follicles in the operating room and early recovery.

Was there anything else he mentioned about post op recovery? Now I'm worried I missed all sorts of things 🥺

I was thinking winter would be better to avoid sun exposure and I could enjoy summer without having to worry about my scalp being expose to sun?
man now you getting me also worried 🤣

he mentioned PRP right before the transplant to prepare the scalp, then 1 month after, 3,6,9 and 12months post op, which would help faster recovery and denser thicker growth.

im French, and told him I was from France but lived in Canada, maybe he offers PRP to people living close by? Idk if you are coming from far away he does not offer it ?

Update 2: Surgery booked for September 2023.

I will book my flight and also Hotel in the next couple of weeks. Mixed feelings of fear and stress but also excitement.

Is there any topic discussing the best tips/advice pre surgery ? How to get ready etc?

Kind of aggressive hairline, no?

I don't think you have to lower that forelock that much.  Just lower the temples and reinforce the hairline at the forelock.  Maybe even leave the temporal points where they already are, and reinforce that too.

I am pretty happy with the design he offered me, he is the one that drew that design, he told me he could do this aggressive hairline due to my hair loss that was only frontal.
I do trust him and I think it will look great
