Hi folks,

Sharing my experience with Dr. Turan and his team.

Date of surgery: 19/04/23
Age: 33
Meds: None but will start taking Fin & Min
Norwood III
Grafts: 2,839

Total cost: EUR 3,500 (standard package, where his team perform the extractions and Turan does all the implantation of grafts)

I won't go into too much detail about the whole day, as many others have covered it already. All I can say is that Dr. Turan and his team are exceptionally professional. The day ran like clockwork, from getting picked up at the hotel to the moment I was dropped off again in the evening. Their work ethic is commendable.

I initially started receding quite early, around 20yrs old, but it's been a slow progression since. I first started looking into transplants around early 2019, but due to covid and being locked in Australia for two years, I put off further research.

I did actually book in with a 'hair mill' and paid a deposit before conducting further research and realising that was a really bad idea. Then after spending weeks trawling through youtube, this forum, and some facebook groups I decided on Dr. Turan. Mainly because of his consistent results and highly positive reviews. I've heard that he typically has an 8-month waiting list but I guess I managed to get a cancellation because I booked in with just three weeks notice.

I would also like to thank everyone who has shared their experience on this site, it gave me a lot of confidence and reassurance to proceed with the surgery!

I'll aim to keep you all updated on my progress periodically.

Feel free to share your thoughts and ask any questions.

PS. Dr. Turan designed my hairline, which I asked him to adjust slightly lower, which he did. But he also informed me that any lower and the hairs would be sitting on muscle. I've always had a big forehead, even when I had a hairline! And in the pics right after surgery, it looks even bigger because of the swelling! 😅

Any pics of donor from back angle will be helpful. (both pre and post ops if you have)

The hairline given to you now is pretty good. And the implantation work looks clean.

Without fin and min if you had only this much loss then i guess you can maintain your hair with meds till a good amount of time until you need a second sitting.

I would have preferred to have you on meds 1 year before surgery though. But i guess the last minute cancellation of another patient brought your surgery date to a 3 week gap but maybe you could have delayed it just to see the response.

Apologies for the poor image quality of the before donor area.

Thanks for your input. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't Fin and Min just slow down the rate of loss, rather than create new growth? Which would have had no effect on my receded hairline anyway.

Fin is a hormone blocker that primarily helps patients retain what they currently have (though I have seen many cases where people have regrown a substantial amount). Min is a stimulant that will decrease time between hair cycles and, in many cases, thicken/regrow hair. The goal is to ensure that you are halting recession in place so that you do not continue to recede behind the implanted hairs in the hairline.

You are starting from a great situation and have the ideal hair characteristics for a transplant but that doesn’t make you immune to continued balding. If I were you, I would really dive into the research and speak to my physician to put a preventative plan in place so I wouldn’t have to use more of my finite donor on the future.

Thanks for clarifying. I did pick up some oral fin and topical min straight after my surgery which I intend to take so fingers crossed that will slow down any further hair loss and maybe even stimulate some growth!

for most people it stabilizes hairloss and for some it also gets the miniaturized hair to grow in crown but there are some outliers whose hairline also sees regrowth (worth a shot maybe).

Donor looks good from the low quality image and crown looks too good actually. I don't think you will be higher norwood in future. (fingers crossed)

Yeah you’re going to be solid. Your current baseline is what most of us on here would dream of haha.

Happy growing. The work looks really clean with high density.

Thanks. Yeah, going to start with 1mg three times a week for the first month, then maybe increase if I have no side effects.

Hey guys,

I've been rather slack at keeping this thread updated, but here we go.

I'm currently a few days short of completing week 11 post-transplant. I started the inevitable shed around the third week and it was pretty harsh, I shed almost everything by week-8 (see pics from month 1, month 2, and today below). I've seen a nice amount of growth over the past two weeks which has been promising, I'm relieved to see that things are starting to work. I'm sure everyone goes through a stage where they question whether anything is going to happen.

Feel like I'm over the toughest period now and looking forward to the next few months.

Happy to answer any questions and I'll be sure to post a 90 day update. Feedback welcome!

6-month update

Very pleased with the progress so far, it's crazy to see how much growth there has been over the past 2-3 months. Like I said in a previous post, I shed pretty much everything by month 2.

As you can see from the pics, the hairline on my left side isn't as strong as my right, and the density (behind the hairline) on the right is thicker than the left. I'm hoping this will even out over the next few months. Can I expect to see new hairs in the hairline grow at this stage? Or will existing hairs just get thicker from now on?

There are a few doubles in the hairline, which you may be able to see from the pics. Slightly annoying but not the end of the world, I'm sure the average person wouldn't notice.

Overall I'm very happy! Still got a massive forehead, but at least my hair is not receding now!

Let me know your thoughts,
Cheers
