Help with HT for Hairline Lowering/Forehead Reduction

Recommended Posts

Hello

As the title says I am looking for guidance with Hairline Lowering/Forehead Reduction.

I am a 36 year old African male with coarse 4C hair(I worry about transection during FUE) with no MPB. I feel confident at this point that I will not recede due to MPB. Fathers, brothers and grandparents never receded so now hoping I’m I’m the same.

I wanted the surgery some years ago but was advised it’s better to wait.

I am just researching doctors to contact for consultations if they would do it. So far I have noted Dr Nadimi, Dr Mwamba and Dr Bisanga.

Attaching some pictures. All advice is welcome.

You need a doctor who specialises in your hair type so you got some solid people there but only Dr Mwamba and Dr Bisanga are who i'm familiar with for that hair type.

Personally i would tell you to be extremely aware of being on some Finasteride or preventative medication prior to this because it will use a LOT of grafts to lower and give you adequate density and you do not want to lower it and then end up potentially losing hair behind to MPB. I know you said it hasn't affected you or family members which is a great sign, but no guarantee it won't later.

Reach out to those doctors and also be familiar with where your Frontalis muscle sits, the thing that makes the lines when you scrunch your forehead to see where you wanted to lower to and whether it's above or below that.

@highhairline,

There is an older, invasive procedure referred to as the hairline lowering or forehead reduction procedure however, not too many surgeons perform this anymore to  my knowledge and to be honest, given the advancements in surgical hair restoration, in my opinion that would be the way to go in my opinion. I know that you are nervous about transection given your hair type  however, several reputable surgeons who’ve dedicated their practice to exclusive FUE hair transplant surgery such as Dr. Rahal can extract follicles of even the most difficult hair types with minimal to practically nonexistent transection.  Dr. Rahal is one of the few surgeons to check each FU under microscopes immediately after surgery to check for transection and further trim the graft if necessary (although further trimming is rarely needed).

Long story short, I would definitely consider undergoing a hair transplant procedure to lower your hairline rather than forehead reduction surgery, which is a much more invasive procedure. That said, I strongly encourage you to take some time to research surgeons and choose a surgeon based on their proven ability to produce outstanding results rather than just picking any hair restoration surgeon that’s local to you. Below, I’ve presented some information on best practices on selecting a quality hair restoration surgeon.

How to Select an outstanding hair transplant surgeon.

1.  Start by looking at the surgeons recommended by this community, in particular the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians.  Surgeons recommended by this community have met a demanding set of standards and are approved based on meeting those high standards.  Many online hair surgeon memberships don’t have any criteria other than to pay a membership fee.  Furthermore, physician members of the coalition have met an even higher and more demanding set of standards and have proven to be amongst the best of the best in the profession.

2. Now even amongst a list of outstanding surgeons, not all surgeons are created equally. Therefore, while it’s tempting to select a surgeon based on price or location, try to avoid this as many individuals travel great distances to undergo surgery with an elite surgeon they are most impressed with. Thus choose a surgeon based on their proven ability to produce outstanding results rather than because of cost or location.

3. Narrow your selection down to 3 to 5 surgeons you are most impressed with.  You can do this by using this discussion forum and others to view examples of patient results posted by both the clinic and their patients.  Speak with and meet with real patients in person if possible. If not, video chat works pretty well.

4. Come up with a list of consult questions to ask each surgeon/clinic you are considering. I’ve created several different posts on this forum with good questions to ask doctors.  If you need help coming up with a list of good questions, please let me know.

5. Consult with each doctor you are considering and ultimately, choose the surgeon you feel can best meet your goals.

I hope this helps
