Hair Transplant Advice

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

New member and just looking for some advice as I’m ready to go down the HT path.

I’m 31, started noticing hairloss 5 years ago- mostly in crown. My father had a HT from Bernstein in 2015, so once I noticed increased thinning in 2018 I went to him for a consult. He advised finasteride and minoxidil. I have sensitive skin so I didn’t last long on the minox, and the fin side effects scared me at the time. Tried LLLT instead, didn’t do anything.

Cut to January 2020 and at that point it was progressing to the point where I had no choice but to take the Fin, side effects be damned (of course, I didn’t end up having any side effects from it). I then added LDOM 5 months ago to see if it would thicken up the crown some. It’s helped a minimal amount. I’m currently getting PRP w/ micro needling (1 session so far) but not expecting much.

My main concern right now is the crown. I’m not expecting the same density as when I was 20, but if I could get like a 75% improvement I would be ecstatic. Price is not an issue, I just want to make sure I’m getting expert quality.

I’m considering the following HT surgeons so far:

De Freitas - I just received the consult form from them, just need to fill out. Looks like he won’t be available for quite some time though.

Bernstein - he’s a class act and very straightforward. He’ll do what’s best for the patient. My dad received one from him (FUT), seemed to do a good job.

Bicer - great results, looks to be highly recommended on here.

Peckiner - lots of talk about him on Reddit and I’ve seen some great results. Not a lot of talk about him on here though.

Hassan & Wong - seem to do great work on crowns.

Any other suggestions? Particularly surgeons you’d recommend for crowns. I’ve considered SMP as well to at least help give the illusion of more density, but I’d probably do that in addition to HT

@djm91,

Honestly, if your primary concern is the crown, you are not a candidate for hair transplant surgery.  To be honest, your crown has more hair than even some of the most dense crown transplants.  If your photos are accurate and showing what your crown really looks like then no respectable surgeon will transplant hair into your crown as it stands right now.

Best wishes,

Have you noticed any improvement from Finasteride? Have you considered trying oral minoxidil? Medication may be enough to get you to where you want to be. All the best.

I definitely noticed an improvement from Fin, and it at least has probably stabilized my hairloss. I’m currently on low dose oral minoxidil (2.5mg), have been taking for about 5 months now.

Thank you for the response. Do you think I would be a candidate for SMP then, to at least mask some of the scalp see through? I’m hoping the PRP w/ microneedling works after I complete all 4 sessions. Has anyone on here had success with PRP?

Dude... even in that unflattering light... your hair looks great.  You are more likely than not to kill more native hairs than you can transplant into that area.

Thanks, I appreciate it man. I’m my own worst critic. Any see through in the crown bothers me.
