I feel like what we've actually had over the years is snake oil and its still the same carousel of shills selling it whether its rubbing onion juice on your head, claiming Saw Palmetto is going to be as effective as Finasteride or even stupid devices for a "scalp tension" theory. These charlatans are still allowed to sell almost unchecked. 

The fact this product is going through clinical trials and including the FDA is usually a really big sign it's got serious investment and intent to come to market. Otherwise we'd still have it sold as a "research chemical" like RU58841 or whatever the hell the numbers are.
