What do you think about my hair situation ?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, first of all a big thank you to everyone here for the many posts and all the help, respect!

I would like to introduce myself, maybe someone has helpful information for me, which doc is suitable for my situation.

* Age: 36
* Current hair status according to the Hamilton-Norwood scale: very diffuse, I guess 3-4
* Planned budget: secondary
* Hair status in the family (parents/grandparents): Father was blank very early, his father too, my mother's father had a full head of hair until he was 90.
* loss history (fast/slow?): Slowly, diffuse since 18-19
*loss stopped?: very strong loss in the last 12 months
* Medication: March 20 – May 22 Regaine - Minox - Since May 22 a topical mix of Finasteride and Minoxidil, MySpring
* Are certain hair surgeons/clinics already in a short list? No, but I wrote to many
* Previous hair transplants: no
* Preferred treatment method: FUE

Since my hair loss is very diffuse, I am curious whether I am a suitable candidate at all, also regarding my donor area, which I would describe as medium or even less.

- The front hairline is primarily important to me (of course), so the price is of secondary importance
- It is also very important to me that scarring is kept to a minimum.
- -> Do I understand correctly that in addition to the experience of the doc, the tool used is also decisive for FUE scaring?

- How many grafts do I need?
- What do you think how many grafts I have on the top head now?
Just to have a relation to the grafts that are being added.

- Is it correct that the gray hair from the donor area gains color again in the recipient area, i.e. it adapts to the local hair situation, or does the hair color remain as it was taken?

- Due to my professional situation, I would be very flexible in the next 6 months, after that I can hardly take vacation for an operation, and that for a long time.

- -> So which A+ Docs have a waitlist that isn't 6+ months, how likely:
- de Freitas, Cuoto, Bruno Pitno, Bruno Ferreira, Heitman, Feruduni …

Attached are pictures of my current hair situation and the loss of the last time.
What are your thoughts?

Thank folks, very much!!!
cheers

Socrates,

based on the photos and information you shared, I would venture to suggest that you are a good candidate for hair transplant surgery. While your hair loss is diffuse, you still have a good bit of natural hair on top of your scalp that if maintained, will greatly aid density when combined with transplanted hair.

Bow I see that you said you started using a topical combination of minoxidil and finasteride in May? How do you feel that’s working for you? Is hair loss still continuing or has it stopped?  And when you started the medication, were you losing your hair or had it already previously stopped and you started using medication just as an insurance policy. Also, is there a reason that you’re not using Oral finasteride? Have you tried it previously and I had side effects or are you concerned about them? I ask because oral finasteride is typically way more potent and effective than topical finasteride.

hair transplant surgery works on a principle known as donor dominance. That means the characteristics of the transplanted hairs will retain their properties from the donor area. Thus, if the donor hair is gray it will likely be gray and stay that way when transplanted.  Is it possible that surgical trauma may alter the hair color?  Possibly. But typically it’s the other way around. I transplant surgery is not a cure for graying hair.

if you would like to schedule a one on one information session with Dr. Rahal, please send me a private message and I’ll be happy to discuss it with you and set it up.

Best wishes,

Hi thanks for your feedback.

As I am concerned about the side effects, I will only use the topical finasterid as pre surgery tool, to stabilize everything for the shock loss.

After the surgery I dont want to use it any more.

Maybe important to know, my father is a noorwood 7, very early when he was 29.

Should I involve this in the decision process, if I am a good candidate or not?

Thanks guys,
