Pilot Posted April 3, 2022 Share Posted April 3, 2022 (edited) Hello all, Today is the 20th anniversary of me having a hair transplant by the late Dr. Alvi Armani in Toronto, Canada and I thought many of you would enjoy an update and seeing some pictures. On April 3, 2002, I had 1,508 grafts and the surgery fee was $3,000.00, GST(Canadian tax) $210.00, Meds $250.00 for a total of $3,460 Canadian dollars. My notes show a Visa charge of $2,235.37 USD. Right after I scheduled the procedure, Dr. Armani raised his prices from $2.00 to $3.00 per graft. Before I got a hair transplant, I was active on several hair loss forums and message boards. I learned all I could from other's experiences and I really did my homework before committing. Remember, back in 2002, some doctors were still doing the old fashioned "plugs". The day of the surgery, Dr. Armani and I had a final discussion of my new hairline before drawing it. He didn't have a mirror, so he left the room and a technician brought me one. The tech handed it to me and walked out of the room. I was all alone and I will never forget the rush of emotions I felt as I turned that mirror around and saw how my future hairline would look. Not once have I ever regretted having a hair transplant and I've never been embarrassed of anyone knowing about it. In fact, Dr. Armani used my photos on his website without obscuring my face . Over the years he would send me his business cards and I would pass them out to people wanting a hair transplant. He never paid me or gave me anything for helping. I did it because I knew how it can impact someone. Flash forward 20 years and I'm now 48 years old and need more work done. I'm looking for a new doctor in either the US or Canada. Ideally, I'd like to have a combination session with a small FUT procedure to improve the existing scar and then have the rest of the session be FUE. I also don't mind having my head shaved, if needed. Any recommendations of who might be the best clinic for me? Dr bloxham for fut and I think he does fue Right after the procedure I used Minoxidil for a few months to help speed things up. But, I soon decided that I didn't want to take meds forever.
