Help with qualified Drs/providers & mis-information.....

Recommended Posts

Hey!

So about a year ago I started looking at a few local (NYC) Drs. based on online reviews and other personal recommendations. Then came across this website and other online resources and its almost like knowledge overload with contradictory information out there, etc.

1) I did see a handful of recommended drs on this website that are on their own page but I wasnt sure if they are paying the website to be listed there?

2) I did lookup a bit about DHI which i know is very similar to FUE - but seems like Drs arent really doing DHI? Is it because its alot of the implant "skill" is taken away by someone trained by using the "pen" or is there a major downside?  It just doesnt seem to be talked about much besides the marketing etc thats out there.

3) My local barber is getting a DHI transplant from a local "Hair Farm" (I think thats what they are) and he said he has a few clients that used them so I did a consult with them and it was with a sales guy and not a dr. That turned me off quite a bit but also I can find any negative reviews etc about them.

Thoughts? I like a deer in headlights right now.

Also about me - I am 38 - never had a hair transplant and like a norwood scale #2. I have fine thinning hair and looking to fix my front hairline. I was quoted about 2,000 grafts give or take some. I also wear my hair pretty short - so it makes me cringe to have a smile on the back of my head (FUT). BUT it seems like alot of Dr.'s push that option.

Most Dr's wouldn't push for a small 2,000 graft FUT on a native NW2 scalp that is already 38 years old. If you are on a preventative medical regimen then you are a prime candidate for an FUE. If you're in NYC then you may have consulted with Bloxham. This clinic is very pro FUT and may be the reason for pushing you in that direction. Use the forum's search function and consult with multiple surgeons that fit what you're goals are. The best advice is to not limit yourself to a local surgeon. There are a great deal of fantastic surgeons in the world and a lifelong result is worth traveling for.

Bosley 11-2016 FUE - 1,407 grafts

Dr. Diep 09-2017 FUE - 2,024 grafts

Dr. Konior 03-2020 FUE - 2,076 grafts

Dr. Konior 09-2021 FUE - 697 scalp to scalp, FUE - 716 beard to beard Total scalp FUE - 6,204 grafts

Yes, I have been using Finasteride and Rogaine & Biotin for probably 7+ years.

I did talk to Bloxham and he pushed FUT

I do normally travel the world quite a bit for fun - just thought it would be easier/more comfortable to be local. But open to travel for this.
