Sami29
I want to have a hair transplant surgery but I dont know for how long I have to wear a cap. My question is: For how long do the redness and bruises on the scalp remain? Do I have to wear a cap for a long time?
Senior Member Maxxy Posted November 11, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted November 11, 2009 Could you conceal your transplant with exsisting hair? There are also products such as DermMatch that could be used to cover the redness. The redness generally depends on your skin tone, mine lasted around 6 months. Senior Member hair_care Posted November 11, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted November 11, 2009 My redness was gone 2 months post op. However I kept the cap on for 4 months after my ht. It is better to wear a cap especially when you go out in the sun for at least for 6 months after the HT, because direct sunlight is not good for the grafts. Bill - Seemiller
Sami29, Welcome to our community. You've been given some excellent advice so far. I do strongly advise you to read the hair transplant guide Spex published and linked to. It includes a lot of valuable information including how to prepare and care for your hair transplant. Hair transplant postoperative scalp discoloration (typically red or pink in color) can last a couple of weeks to a couple of months depending on the patient. Fair skinned individuals (especially those who are easily flushed) may experience elongated scalp discoloration, especially when dense packing is administered. Some hair restoration physicians will prescribe something if the patient's scalp remains pink for over a month or so. Wearing a hat is a choice, but often helps conceal all the awkward stages of the procedure which usually lasts a couple months. This could be anything from shock loss, to extended redness, the dormant period, etc. As Maxxy pointed out, topical concealers may help camouflage some of redness in areas of existing hair. It will also present the illusion of more fullness while you're waiting for your hair transplant to grow out. Best wishes, Bill
