Patient is a 60 year old male with a class 6 pattern of hair loss. Patient came in with the expectation of having a conservative hairline with templle recession that he would be able to comb straight back after one session. He understood that all the grafting would be done in the frontal half of head and that he would not have the density that he had before losing his hair.

 

We did 1346 single hairs, 1319 2 hair follicular units, and 447 3 hair follicular units for a total of 3,112 grafts and 4,426 hairs.

This patient is actually thinking about having another procedure, but for 60 years old he is looking pretty good compared to prior to his surgery.

I have a question about these types of HT's, not to be rude because I am simply staying the obvious

 

Doesn't this look un-natural? The very first photo is what is killing me when I see this. I want to say this is a success, but while I would be comfortable having people look at me while I'm facing them, I would be really conscious about people look at the back of my head.

 

He should get a 2nd transplant in the mid scalp, throw another 3000 grafts there so when he does come his hair back, it's more natural looking

 

This type of hair loss progression worries me because I wonder if I'm going to have to do a combover like that in the future...

 

Anyone think the same thing? or are my expectations too high?

I agree that this design is not complete at this stage. Advanced MPB cannot often be addressed well IMO with one pass. Look at Bill - 4 times was the charm and he still hints he wants more

I agree with you this patient should have a 2nd session of some where in the range of 3,000 grafts and it would give him more coverage farther back. You have to remember this patient is a class 6, not a class 2,3,4, or even a 5, he has a lot of hair loss and even with a 2nd session his results are not going to look a pateint who is a class 2,3,4, or 5. A lot of men such as yourself do not like losing their hair and want to do something about. Hair transplantation is a route that a lot men chose to go such as this gentleman and yourself. Prior to a patients procedure it is good that they understand the results that they will receive and this pateint did understand the results that he was going to receive after one session. Dr. Panine likes to show examples of all stages of hair loss. If you look at his photo albums you will see examples of all different classes of hair loss. This is a good site because you will get to see examples of all stages of hair loss and there results after 1 session and multiple procedures. This patient has come a long from what he looked like prior to his surgery and does look very good when people see him from the front which is the main priority for a class 6 pattern hair loss after 1 session. It would not be fair to only show results of class 2,3, 4 hair loss patterns, because there are a lot of men with class 5 and 6 patterns of hair loss and this site allows them to see the results after 1 session and multiple sessions. I am pretty sure this patient is planning on have another session in the near future and I will update his results at that time. Hopefully you agree that his procedure took years of his appearence for what he looked like prior to his surgery.

As of today this patient has not had a 2nd session and from my last conversation with him he is still considering having one, but he has been very happy with his results from the first session. I have resized his post-op pictures for better clarity, because the original ones that I posted were somewhat unclare. This new resized pictures will give a much more accurate visual of his true results.
