Slow Diffusion and Deciding on Transplant

I am diffused all over the top in what I assume is a NW6 pattern.  I’m recessed to maybe a 2.5/3 and the frontal third of my scalp is more diffused then the crown and mid scalp.  I’m over 40.  I almost wish that this weak, diffused hair would just fall out now so I could 1)have a clear understanding of what my final pattern is and 2)so I could do a transplant(s) without shock loss or whatever.  I feel like decisions about where to put the hairline etc are really difficult when you have this sickly birds nest in top of your head.

How do you know when it’s right to pull the trigger on transplants?  I sometimes look at my hair trying to figure out exactly where the crown dips or precisely where the sides are - hoping that both are high enough so that some transplants will give me a decent result.

Any advice from diffusers on when the time was right or what the strategy is to proceed?
