Regular Member Flavio Posted December 22, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted December 22, 2008 Ok, the big question: we all know that Avodart (dutasteride) is a dual 5AR inhibitor and is much stronger than Propecia (finasteride), but does this mean it is more effective in the treatment of male pattern baldness? Are there any studies to back this up?
Bill - Seemiller
Flavio, Finasteride is FDA approved to stop hair loss while dutasteride is not. Currently, there are no official studies to back up dutasteride's efficacy for male pattern baldness, even though it makes logical sense. Also, since type I 5-alpha-reductase enzymes are found in the brain, I've been a bit reluctant to consider using dutasteride that blocks them. I'd personally like to learn more about this before I'd ever consider using it. Best wishes, Bill

[...] Absolutely. It seems that dutasteride could have permanent side effects, so it should be used with great caution. And there is no consensus on the right dosage for the treatment of baldness.
