propecia sides....

I think you need to be careful on what you blame on the drug and what is just normal male emotions ( and a bit of your mind playing tricks on you) ..

Of course I am not saying your assessment may be valid but I attribute this comparison to when one starts to lose their hair..

We start to blame it on everything from allergy to stress to shampoos??

the mind is a powerful thing

Green,

Still not back to normal yet. I'm not going to worry about it though. Sometimes it just takes a long while to recover. Great to hear that ur responding well to propecia and I'm glad u stuck with it. Just keep monitering it for the next few months I'd say.

Mrjobi,

It has nothing to do with mental in my case. Thanks for the insight though.

Mrjobi --

One of the first things doctors ask when you see them for libido/erectile issues is if you are getting morning erections or not. This is the way they determine psychogenic impotence from physically based. People who have issues in their mind will still get erections in their sleep, it's a physiological response of a healthy functioning male.

People who suffer these side effects from Propecia notice that they go from getting regular morning/nocturnal erections to none whatsoever.

I will say over and over again... there are tons of people who do NOT get any sides on the drug, but there are many people who really do -- and it is most definitely not in their minds.

I know it was nothing psychological, because I wasn't even slightly considering that it might happen, and I didn't even notice at first - my girlfriend pointed it out to me. Even then I didn't relate it to the Finasteride until a while later.

I also noticed that my unconscious erections were acting up, like no morning wood, but almost like clockwork erections about 6pm.

My prostate ached from time to time, which is something that never happened in my life.

Also, even if weak erections are psychological, I don't think watery semen is a psychosomatic symptom.

  • 4 weeks later...

ive had bad sexually sides on 1mg fin daily so continued on a lower dose (0.5mg) after stopping (back to normal in a week). The sides have come back but dont seem as bad , does this mean that if i continue lowering the dose until the sides stop this will be MY recomended dose . Everyone is different and maybe the people who experience the sides are just more sensitive to the drug so require a smaller dose ?

im guessing the only way to know would be to take a blood test and see what the dht levels are on various doses , i bet these results would be massivly different from one person to the next . So just say i lowered my dose to 0.1mg a day and still had sides would this mean that the drug was still being effective at this dose???? is there a relation to the sides and the drug working in the body (dht levels). ???

any dose lower then .25mg a day would probably not be effective... as far as the sides go.. you are and I are pretty much in the same situation..... i was never able to get rid the side effects while on the medication. the lowest dose i tried was .25 and still had side effects....

did you ever try anything other than daily doses ? and also how long did you suffer the sides before you desided to stop?

Many people say that the sides will disapear in time and i have found many people say that the sides will go if you change the doseage to every other day on a lower dose not every day on a lowe dose ?

if you still had bad sides on this low dose surely it was still doing something to your body? so what makes you think a lower dose than this would be inafective

what do you think causes the sides like ED ? it must be the reduction of hormones right ! so while you experience said sides the drug must be working.

I have read that people experience sides after increasing their dosage from 1mg to a higher dose so maybe the RECOMENDED dose is just worked out for the majority that dont get the sides and not how much your body needs to block the DHT, they are trying to sell these drugs after all!

Hi T.C , same as me , i had bad sides on 1mg, i switched to 0.5mg daily but still get the sides but not as bad, what you say does seem to make sense though , ive heard it reduces dht for 72 hours and i also heard doctors say that a half dose is 80 % as successful as 1mg so 0.5mg would seem to work if you look at it like that.

I was wondering what your results have been like thus for , how long have you been taking propecia in total ? how long on the low dose? have the sides gone ? has the hair loss stopped ? etc.... sorry lots of questions but it sounds like you are a similar case to myself ! also what stage is your balding at ??

many thanks.

Hi Prozak, I did lots of research on various forums,DHT STUDY charts and other peoples experiences and came to the conclusion that .5mg every 48 hours would do almost the same as 1mg ed but with much less sides which were my problem on 1mg (groin ache was agony). My hairloss was mainly in the front (which I have had 2 HT,NEED A THIRD FOR DENSITY) at first and then the top has gone a bit diffused in a maybe NW5 pattern but with a strong crown. I have alot of hair left still though. The thinning has stopped now I think and I have a slight improvement going towards back the crown area where the hairs have more colour and thickness. If I keep it how it is I will be happy.Sides, still get a bit of odd feeling in groin but comes and goes and can live with it at moment.Sex drive is o.k but takes more thought to get going!!!.My hairloss on top has been slowly kreeping up on me for 6 years which can lull you into a false sense of security to not to do anything which happened to me."PGP" wrote on the PRP thread yesterday that he switched to .5mg on mon wed fri and he had blood tests done and they showed same DHT levels as when on 1mg.Have been on this dose for 6 months now and intent to stick with it for now.

well im currently on 0.5mg daily but planning to change soon, im having problems maintaing an erection and headaches, so im going to stop for a week again to get back normal and then go with the 0.5mg m/w/f , to be honest i havent really given the sides any time to recover as they are supposed to with time??? but if 0.5mg mwf is as effective as 1mg daily its a no brainer . im guessing this should sort out the sides as the smaller dose did give less sides for me when i changed from 1mg .

T.C did you ever have any problems returning to normal whilst experimenting with the doseage or did you just continue the treatment but change the dose???

it really is a suprise to me that 0.5mg m/w/f works so well when you consider that you are only taking 1.5mg a week and the recomended doseage is 7mg a week !!! guess it show how potent the drug is.

Yea i would wait till your body goes back to normal.. thats what I did before trying a lower dosage..it took me about a week to get back to normal before trying to take it again.

how long have you been taking prop for? I ask because it will be easy to see if the drug still works while taking .50 eod if the drug is already working for you now.

on another note i was wondering what your results have been like, i've been on pro for 3 1/2 months stopping for 2 weeks due to sides. I feel the hairloss has slowed some but no signs of regrowth, also i think i had a shed in the first 2 months mainly in the front (well thats where it shows more) but no sign of this coming back ??? i here that the dormant hair takes 6 weeks to grow back so i should be seeing some results by now right ? im definaly still getting thinner on top but dont know if its from shed or continued hairloss (im a low nw3)

i have only been on treatment for 3 1/2 months so im probably being a tad hastey but the sides are making me impatient, i know you guys have been on the treatment for quite a while and could probably put my mind at ease.

thanks

they say to stay on propecia for a year before you may see results.. me personally, by 4 months i saw hair improvement in the quality and much much less hair falling out.. its hard for me to see regrow because im not probably a nw1 if that at all.. I never really experienced a shed, my hair kept falling out like it always did till day by day it lessoned.

When I first took it as prescribed 1mg a day by 14 days I had to stop for a week and played around with the dose. At first .5 ed for 3 weeks but this gave me problems like before so I stopped until pain went away which took 4 weeks at this stage(longer than I thought) which demonstartes maybe what a strong effect it has on your physiology. then I got to where I am now. You should give it plenty of time to work,12 months!!.My hairline did shed a bit in the beginning but is back to normal after a few months. If you can stick with it at least you will know if it is working or not at the end.
