Regular Member combatinghairloss Posted March 22, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted March 22, 2009 Hey, I would like to know if Finasteride can prevent shockloss? It seem the doctor shave the donor hair before the HT procedure. What clipper lenght to they shave the donor hair with? I rather just go shaved and prepared. Thanks! Bill - Seemiller
combattinghairloss, Taking Propecia several months prior to surgery may help minimize the risk of permanent or even temporary shock loss. This is due to Propecia potentially strengthening miniaturizing hairs, making them more resilient. Thus Propecia may make natural hair more resistant to shock loss caused by the scalp trauma of hair transplant surgery. Some surgeons shave the scalp all the way down to a zero clip when performing hair transplant surgery. Those who require it believe it can help minimize shock loss since it's easier to see and get in between and around existing hair. I hope this helps. Best wishes, Bill
Bill - Seemiller
I just realized you were referring to doctors shaving down the donor area, not the recipient area. All doctors shave the donor area. For strip surgery, the shaved area is harvested and thus, leaving you without the shaved area anymore. For follicular unit extraction (FUE), you will be left with a shaved donor area. I hope this helps. Bill
Senior Member CuriousJungleGeorge Posted March 23, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted March 23, 2009 Bill, so, there's no visible shaved region in the donor area with F.U.T.? Is the entire shaved portion taken as the strip?

It helped. I been on 1/4 of 5 mg finasteride for years so hopefully It will help preventing shockloss. I actually don't mind shaving my recipient area or donor hair. If it's for the best outcome of my HT.
