Your thoughts on Propecia sides, libido etc.

hey everyone, i was interested in getting some thoughts on my current situation. I had a HT about 6months ago and took a break from Propecia (1mg EOD) shortly after. So I've been off the Propecia for 6months now, I took a break because my libido was being affected. Anyhow 6months down the line, being frank, the pluming is pretty much back to normal but my desire to have sex hasn't returned to what it was. I was thinking about starting on Propecia again at the end of the month but I'm not sure now. I may wait a little longer to see if my libido improves even more before i start again. Has anyone had a similar experiences to mine? How long did it take for your libido to return 100% etc? Did you start back on the drug and sustain libido etc. Cheers

hi, i was about one year on 1mg ED when i started noticing decreased sex drive but nothing major, then a few months after that brain fog, not feeling great, so i cut them down to 1mg EOD. This got rid of the brain fog etc. But then after that came weaker sensation of orgasms but i rode it out (no pun intended)so about 2years and a HT later i gave the finasteride a break. Everythings fine orgasm wise, however I'd say my desire to have sex is maybe 85% give or take 5%. I mean i used to be as horny as I ever was, like an 18 year old boy. I think theres prob plenty of folk who have compromised there libido a little for the security of having hair which i can appreciate. I'm hoping i can start back again soon. I have to make a decision, i'd like to maintain with the help of meds. Thanks

I'm off the meds. I also had libido issues and brain fog, memory issues. I would speak to your doctor about the libido problem and get some tests done.

 

I'm also worried that I stopped the drugs because my hair loss has not stopped. I'm not going to sacrifice sex for potentially more hair. The sides made my decision easier and I stand by it.

hey Take a Chance, did you have a ht? What's your experience with finasteride? I wonder if your libido can be restored with out regular meds? My doctor is the one who originally provided my first 2/3 scripts for Proscar (after some arm twisting) before i started buying it on the net. I don't think i'd feel right going back to the docs after she was so reluctant to proscribe Proscar in the first place. Also Propecia is not available here in Ireland, i donno why, maybe the FDA didn't approve it here. Anyway my lack of hornyess is not that big an issue right now or i would have gone to the doctor by now regardless and i mean i still get horny if i look at porn. Maybe it might be an issue if i was in a relationship. I can check out Propeciahelp.com for more info, regards

I had a HT about 6 weeks ago and took proscar for about the same amount of time. I was taking 1.25 everyday and noticed the side effects after just a couple of weeks. I spoke to my HT doc and he suggested I try taking it every other day which might help. I tried this and it didn't really help. I spoke to him again and told him what I was experiencing and told him I was stopping, he agreed to stop.

I've been off proscar now for about 6 or 7 days and slowly everything is coming back to normal.

The thing is I didn't want to continue because it was just not worth the hassle. I lost my concentration, memory and libido and wasn't happy so after weighing the pros and cons, I decided to stop.

As for your Doc, you shouldn't feel bad about going back, thats what they're there for. If you experienced side effects thats not your fault and your doc should understand that. I would suggest going to a doc that you feel comfortable with. My old doctor was very similar to yours so I changed to another doc and he advised me that proscar was safe and very good to use. After I told him I was experiencing sides he told me it can happen and might get better over time. I'm not going to take the risk though. The last thing I want to do it take it for a year then have to stop and lose all the hair i have gained.

Prociahelp is quite scary, there are guys on there with serious problems. So far I'm almost over all the side effects.

Yeah, Propeciahelp is scary as hell. I got some sides, then read up on that site, I decided to stop it, and I'm back to 100% which is a relief. I'm almost considering going back on it to try again, but I think 1.25mg is too strong for me - I'm only 5'6" and about 140lbs. Maybe I don't need all that much DHT blocked. I was using 1/4ths of Proscar, but I don't think 1/8ths are really feasible, especially since the finasteride might not be evenly distributed throughout the pill.

I'm also considering Saw Palmetto which is supposed to have similar sides, but is overall less strong...

hey Take a Chance, I think anybody who got sides like you would quit it. Propeciahelp sounds pretty bad for those folk. And regarding dosage i think some people on the forms are pretty crazy taking doses like 1.25+mg a day and some dudasteride thrown in for good measure, i think thats a bit mad. But anyway i found some Proscar by Cipla in my room and some Finasteride by Genpharma. Im gonna start back on the Proscar 1mg EOD maybe the end of the month. (I dont know if that Genpharma stuff is legit) If the only sides i get is being a little less horny i can live with that to have hair and feel better about myself. Loosing my hair would be devastating, i think i'd look horrible bald and it would have a real negative effect on me. Also I had a piece of bone taking from my skull and grafted to my cheek to treat a fractured cheek-bone so now i have a dent on the top of my head. I never thought i would have had a dent in my head after surgery, i thought i'd just have a scar, the surgeon never mentioned it. I might have chosen to take the bone from my hip instead, oh well.

I quit the drug after being on it over a year. It took 11-12 months before I felt my libido returned. It was a bit nerve racking. After having gone through quite a bit with the drug, I most definitely believe those people on propeciahelp who say they never returned to normal. I tried cut the dose before quitting, but nothing really seemed to get rid of the sides for me.

Ceasar, I haven't recovered 100% but getting better slowly. Everyday I am seeing improvements and getting back to normal.

 

Jojo, I understand where you're coming from I would continue too if the sides haven't been that bad. I was an NW6 when I went for my HT so I was only taking the proscar to maintain the side hairs and crown. I'm just going to have to take my chances without the meds for now...
