Help me decide my Norwood level and choose a doc

I'm a 30 year old Nepalese man wishing to undergo hair transplant. Ever since I started taking minodixil (10%) and finasteride along with Ketobath shampoo, I've seen some "progress" in hairgrowth but during my follow up visits, I've been told that its most likely not going to be a long term solution.

I went to a local hair transplant surgeon who also seems to be a plastic surgeon doing botox and what not.

The quoted price is way cheap. 800 bucks for 3000 grafts (he thinks I'll need about 4200-4500 grafts).

I've sent my pics to various docs - most of them seem to insist on similar number of grafts while Dr. Dua's rep got back to me saying I'll probably need around 6k grafts and I was suggested to go for a FUT - FUE combo (FUT first and FUE in 12 months time).

I was leaning towards getting it done with Dr. Bhatti but he got back to me saying I seem to have diffused pattern and that doesn't make me a suitable candidate.

I'd also thought about going with Dr. Radha but then, I decided against it because I really don't wish to walk around with a visible scar down the road, should I decide on going for a buzz cut look.

I'm really torn as to what I should do next.

This whole ordeal has left me depressing. If I were living back in the US, I'd have 'rocked' buzzcut look but since I moved back, going bald isn't an option (culture/family pressure et al).

Like I aforementioned, I definitely wish to undergo hair transplant. I can't seem to figure out if I really have a diffused pattern like I was told by Dr. Bhatti. I also can't seem to understand my norwood level.

Also, more importantly, would getting a transplant help me get thicker hair or will I have bald spots?

I'm leaning towards Dr. Dua vs Endogan. or simply go with Dr. Radha.

And lastly, a "silly" question, perhaps. Say I went with a local Nepali doc instead, what would be the consequences if his work were poor. I mean, all things considered (location - Kathmandu vs India/Turkey, Cost - 800 bucks vs 3-8k), he doesn't seem to be a bad option.

Hi Walker,

To answer your last question, the consequences could be detrimental for several reasons:

1. Unnatural result - pluggy, incorrect graft distribution, requiring expensive repair work in the future.

2. Wasted donor - You have a large balding area and need every single graft.

3. Design - Design is important as it needs to look natural and take future loss into consideration.

4. Scar (FUE or FUT) - A hair transplant will always leave a scar. However, by going to an unknown surgeon, the risks of incompetence increase significantly.

Finally, if a surgeon rejects you because of donor limitation, I would take this advice very seriously. The good news is that your hair is very short in the pictures so it may seem weaker than it actually is. I recommend an in-person consultation with a top Doctor.

Have you considered Dr. Konior, Dr. Lorenzo, and Dr. Bisanga?

Best of luck to you.

Also, from the pictures, I would say a diffused NW5 going on 6.

Hi walker,

Delancey has gave you some steller advice there and named some top doctors in the game if hair transplants. if h was you id contact all three of them even if its just for an evaluation on the type of loss you have and might encounter later on in your life. And see what they suggest for to do.

It looks to me you got a diffuse nw5 pattern but in one of your pictures suggest you might go even higher thats why its important you get yourself evaluated by a top surgeon because there nit after your money they will tell you how it id ad what you need done.

Best of luck.
