In the first session the grafts were placed symmetrically. Since the patient has now decided to comb his hair from left to right, a second session will be designed with left-weighting of grafts to enhance this grooming pattern.

Great coverage

What does a donor density of 2.6 mean?

Is there a scale of density? Microns?

What is considered average?

Oh and how is it calculated? With a special device/machine?

I've been on a few consults but never had this express to me.

Thanks

Hello rev333, and thank you for the comments.

What does a donor density of 2.6 mean?

The donor density measures the number of hairs per square millimeter in the donor area (hairs/mm2).

Is there a scale of density? Microns? What is considered average?

It is measured in hairs per square millimeter. The typical range for a normal Caucasian is about 1.7 - 2.5 hairs per mm2. Donor density of 2.2 is considered average.

Oh and how is it calculated? With a special device/machine?

A densitometer is used to measure donor density. This device magnifies a 10mm2 area of the donor area. The physician counts the hair in that area and divides by 10.

I've been on a few consults but never had this express to me.

Thanks

It is not generally done. And you are most welcome.

That's quite impressive. The transformation not only physically, but seemingly in his overall demeanor as well, has to be very rewarding for you. Great work.

I am a patient advocate for Dr. Parsa Mohebi in Los Angeles, CA. My views/opinions are my own and don't necessarily reflect the opinions of Dr. Mohebi and his staff.
