Regular Member GuitarBoy Posted November 18, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted November 18, 2014 Hi guys, I am finally taking the plunge and having my FUT done in December. I've been advised not to drink alcohol for the week prior to surgery. So my question is, I have a Christmas party six days before the surgery. I'm not planning on going wild at all, but will it be ok for me to have a couple of drinks (I'm talking about maybe three glasses of wine)? Obviously I don't want to do anything that would jeopardise the surgery of course, but I wanted to get people's opinions if six days before surgery would still be ok. I'm 31 years old if that counts for anything... Let me know your opinions...!
Senior Member Squatch Posted November 18, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted November 18, 2014 I believe that the reason they don't want you to drink is because you bleed more during surgery. I don't think that far in advance would cause that. I'm not a physician though. My instructions were 3 days before. Just call your Dr. and ask. You know your paying a lot of money to have yourself worked on. The clinic I went to kept in touch before the procedure and always asked if I had any questions. I did hold off on having alcohol after my procedure. I wanted to make sure my antibiotics were not effected in any way. Senior Member hairweare Posted November 19, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted November 19, 2014 While it won't put you at risk of bleeding to death or requiring a transfusion, you will bleed a bit more making it messier and more time consuming for the physician who you will undoubtably piss off as he pushes down with his sponges in order to achieve hemostasis. Senior Member MusoInOz Posted November 19, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted November 19, 2014 Hey mate, It is purely precautionary the week rule is outlined. It will not hinder the procedure unless of course you consumer alcohol or other blood thinning medications etc two three days prior. Obviously I am not doctor and you should consult the physician at hand first. I too was very concerned with this back in 2010.
