  1. Hi everyone, I had my HT done almost three months ago. I haven't had my hair cut since I had it done (it was already long and messy when I had the HT done). I'm really embarrassed to go into a hair salon though; not so much because I have to explain it but more about the other people in the salon, particularly the arrogant, snotty ones whose job seems to be to wash hair and stand around posing and judging people..... Anyone able to recommend a nice hair salon I could go to where they will have experience of this before......?
  2. I did a search and couldn't really find any info on this... I style my hair on a daily basis by towel drying it and then blow drying it and then using some product or hairspray to hold it in place. I can get by more or less without hairspray or products, but how long until I can use a hairdryer to style my hair as normal after the HT? I'll be trying to style it to cover the recipient area if possible...
  3. Ok thanks for the advice. I am fair skinned, but I will tan a little in the sun without burning. Too much sun and I will be verrrry red though, so I have to be careful. What's the consensus on getting a bit of a tan on my face pre surgery? I'm not in a warm climate so this would involve a couple of visits to a sunbed.....
  4. Thanks for all the input. I'm still unsure how much of my existing hair on the front will be shaved off, but how long after the surgery before I can try to style it as normal? At least to see what it looks like and whether foundation will be necessary. Speaking of foundation, are there any particular brands that are recommended to work well in that area?
  5. When I get my HT done, how long until the awful raw redness goes away? I'm very fair skinned, and my skin is super sensitive to everything. So I think I should prepare for the worst - just not sure what that would be. A month? Longer? I want to know how long until it will look like I have had nothing done. I have a conservative job, so wearing a hat at work isn't an option... I need to strategically think about how much time off I will need...and I don't want to underestimate it - I've heard some docs say it will be fine by ten days....not so sure I believe this. My existing hair in the recipient area would just about (with careful styling) cover where the redness will be, but some of this will have to be shaved on the day, thus making it very unlikely that I can fully hide the redness with existing hair. Thoughts/comments...?
  6. Hi guys, I am finally taking the plunge and having my FUT done in December. I've been advised not to drink alcohol for the week prior to surgery. So my question is, I have a Christmas party six days before the surgery. I'm not planning on going wild at all, but will it be ok for me to have a couple of drinks (I'm talking about maybe three glasses of wine)? Obviously I don't want to do anything that would jeopardise the surgery of course, but I wanted to get people's opinions if six days before surgery would still be ok. I'm 31 years old if that counts for anything... Let me know your opinions...!
  7. Thanks for all that info Doug, very helpful to me. I will be travelling to the US from the UK for my surgery. How long after the surgery do you think until I can fly back to the UK? Also, I will most likely be on my own until I get back to the UK - do you think that will be a problem? Thanks.
  8. Hey everyone. It looks like I'm going to have somewhere between a 1200 - 1600 FUT later this year. I've been for a few consultations but have yet to select my surgeon. It will just be in my temples and around the front of my hairline. I've been thinking about some "how long until..." questions that I wanted to get people's take on... How long until I can expect the redness and swelling to get to a point where it's not too noticeable? I'll be doing what I can to cover it with my existing hair, but I'm curious to know when it will look "fine". How long until I can wear a beanie? Given that a beanie will sit on the front of the hairline and on the temples, which is exactly where the grafts will be.... How long until I can go swimming?! I love swimming and not sure how it will be wearing a swimming cap (or even not wearing a swimming cap...) How long until I can go back to weight training? And can I go back to training my legs quicker, or should I hold off both for a set period of time? I tend to go to loads of different places to get my hair cut, and I was wondering how long until I don't have to explain to the stylist that I've had a HT? Or is this something I should always make them aware of? Appreciate any advice or input on these........
  9. haha, damn right Voxman! But I like to mix it up...so on those occasions I will need my hairline looking great
  10. I'm really curious to hear people's opinions for sure. My hair isn't so bad apart from at the temples and right at the very front of the hairline, so for me top quality hairline work is the objective...
  11. Hi everyone. I'm a 30 year old guy, an NW 2, and I've been contemplating my HT for a while. I have roughly narrowed down my choices as follows - if I do FUT I will choose between Feller, Rahal, Shapiro and Konior (maybe True/Dorin...). And if I go the FUE route, I'll go with Lorenzo. Having said that, since my main focus will be my temples and the very front of my hairline, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a surgeon who is renowned for really good hairlines? All advice welcome.... Also feel free to recommend who you would pick from my list above...
  12. Thanks for all your input, and yes please keep any thoughts or ideas coming! I did consider FUE, but I wrote it off on the basis of how noticable it would be. I know that might not be the right way to think about this. And if it was possible for me to take enough time off work until the hair grows back, then I would do FUE for sure. But my hair is maybe 1.5 inches long at the back, so if I shaved an area there is no way it would grow back sufficiently in a few weeks. And cutting it shorter all over just isn't an option for me! So unless there is a hairstyle that works where I could cut the back relatively short and leave it longer on top...
  13. Hi everyone. I'm a 29 year old guy, and I have been considering getting a HT for years. From the consultation I've had, the general recommendation ranges between 1,300 - 1,500 grafts - these would go in my temples and also towards lowering my hairline a little. That's the overall goal. I love to style my hair a lot, so placement is really important to me. The most natural result possible if what I'm after. I would love to do FUE (I live in Europe, so we have some amazing options for that here), but I can't do the shaving the back of my head thing - can't wear a hat in my job and I don't want people to know about this. So FUT it will be. I've narrowed down my list to the following doctors. I feel like I've been stuck in the detail of looking at each of their work for so long now that I'd just love some external input to help make my final decision. Here is my list: Shapiro Rahal Konior Feller All thoughts, comments, opinions are welcome...
  14. Gatsu, that looks incredible. Congratulations on such an amazing result. Please do continue to keep us posted.
  15. Mahhong - thank you very much for your considerate reply. It is definitely hard to hear that a HT may not be a good option. I am fairly self-conscious about my receeding hairline, but I do understand that it's not possible to determine the full extent of the hair loss I will experience over my life. I would love to get the temples covered and then my hair problems would be over. But this isn't realistic at all, given that I am 26 and I suppose I am bound to lose more hair over the next few years. I can't imagine not having my long hair though If the pace of my hair loss continues to be slow for the next few years; at what age do you think it would be acceptable to go for a HT? I am going to talk to my parents about it as well, and try and find out what my grandfathers hair was like, and what my uncles and cousins hair is like. My dad was born with white blonde hair (like me), but his stayed blonde his entire life (he is 60 now and it is still white, though it has receeded around his temples and crown). For me, my hair turned brown in my teens and has stayed that way. I will find out about the rest of my extended family to see what their situations are like. Thanks again for your advice.
