Great Experience with Dr. Carlos Wesley

When I was 16, my brother pulled back my hair and said that I was going bald. I punched him in the stomach, told him that he was an idiot, and retreated to the bathroom to inspect my hair. At 20, I made a deal with God (in whom I don't really believe) that I would be happy if I didn't go bald until 30. At 30, I renegotiated with God (in whom I don't really believe) and he decided to slow, but not stop, my hair loss. At 40, I began to take Propecia. At 55, I was straight up Norwood III and decided it was time for a transplant. I researched this and similar websites and met with several highly recommended physicians. At 56, I had a hair transplant procedure by Dr. Carlos Wesley.

I had a good feeling about Dr. Wesley even before I met with him. I liked what I saw on his website, and I liked what his patients had to say. I know that there has been some discussion as to whether he is too conservative, but this was never an issue for me because my needs were conservative. I was not looking to have a youthful densely packed hairline, I really just wanted to stabilize my receding hairline and fill in my thinning frontal third so that I never go bald. When I met with Dr. Wesley, I immediately knew that I had found my man. He is highly intelligent, but never arrogant or condescending. He clearly explained his perspective on the various issues, but was open to different points of view. Finally, he not only takes great pride in his work, but also takes great satisfaction in improving the lives of his patients.

At 6:00 AM on December 19, 2013, I met with Dr. Wesley in his office, took some happy meds, and discussed the procedure. The day went exactly as advertised. It felt more like a day at a spa than a multi-hour surgery. There was zero pain. Dr. Wesley's wonderful team is professional, personable, and caring. They clearly have great respect for Dr. Wesley and for one another. At about 6:00, I went home, took an ambien, and passed out.

Now 11 weeks later, I have gone through the usual ups and downs. At first I was so thrilled with my newly re-positioned hair that I didn't really mind the facial swelling and scalp itching, I was on a high. Then the transplanted hair started to fall out. And then there was the shock loss. (To me it looked horrible, but to my wife and friends, it was barely noticeable.) Intellectually, I knew this was all part of the journey, but emotionally, I was still a little bummed. Now, however, the loss has stopped, and early gain has begun. I am once again super optimistic about my future head of hair. I don't want to count my chickens before they're hatched, but I do count each newly sprouted hair every morning (and afternoon and evening) in the mirror. I am very grateful for the amazing advances in hair restoration, I am very grateful for the fantastic Dr. Wesley and his wonderful staff, and I am very grateful for the mysterious God (in whom I still don't really believe.)
