Stopping propecia before HT?

Recommended Posts

I have been told to stop propecia before my up and coming HT. I understand the reasons for rogaine but not propecia?

Please discontinue any hair loss medications such as Rogaine (Minoxidil)

or Propecia (Finasterid) 15-20 days prior to your procedure.

Hi James,

I don't know why this is being suggested to you. Our patients typically use finesteride medical treatment pre and post surgery. Who is your surgeon? Are they recommended by HTN? Do you have a condition that may contributing to this caution. Let us know. Very interested to your response and following up. All the Best, Michael

That's a very strange request by the clinic, and the first I've seen of it. I was under the impression that for optimal protection against HT trauma (resulting in shockloss), a prospective patient would be encouraged to get on the drug if not already.

Hi all,

My Doc is recommended, however it was not my Doc who suggested this but the company who i booked the procedure with. I have emailed them asking to clarify if this is correct or a misunderstanding so will let you know the outcome.

Multivitamins and meds like asprin and so on are not advised due to thinning of the blood so possible a misunderstanding.

The "company" you booked your procedure with? James, what do you mean by this? Are you using a third party company that acts as a go-between? Regardless, there is ZERO reason to stop finasteride before the procedure and you should insist on speaking to your doctor, or at least someone that works in the doctor's office, before you proceed as you need this to be clarified. The doctor should be informed that this is being listed as a preoperative requirement.

Yes the 3rd party acts as a go-between (arranging transfers etc.), however i have emailed them to clarify this to see if there is a misunderstanding and i am awaiting a response.

I will also email the Doc to inform him of this, and hopefully this is just a misunderstanding.

yep, stay on it or you'll possibly lose your native hair and your end result could be similar to where you're at now. someone's misinformed for sure.

Sorry for the questions but why is there a third party involved? Is there a language barrier they are assisting with?

No problem Jotronic, ask away. The third party arranged everything, hotel, transfers etc and a translator, however since then i have been in touch with the English speaking rep and the Doc. And have asked to clarify this as i suspect this to be a misunderstanding.
