kroka
Hello, I've been taking finasteride for a little more than a year now. I started at 1mg daily, and then moved to 1.25mg daily (due to using generic proscar). I was stressed at the time of starting, and shortly after I became slightly/moderately depressed. I blamed it on life circumstances. I still am mildly depressed and suffering from anxiety, but now I am also experiencing bad mood swings and anger outbursts. Anyway, I'm not yet blaming finasteride but I am taking it into consideration before I consider taking anti-depressants. Questions: (I am looking for scientific numbers, or anecdotal if that's all you have, but I am not looking for scaremongering) How long after quitting finasteride should I expect hormone levels to return to normal? How long after quitting finasteride should I expect the (potential) psychological symptoms to subside? How long after quitting finasteride should I expect hair loss? Assuming that I do notice a disappearance in symptoms, and decide to get back on finasteride at a lower dosage: What is the lowest dosage that has been proven successful for long-term hairloss? Thanks for the help
Senior Member 1978matt Posted March 9, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted March 9, 2013 Answers based on personal experience & what I have read over the years: How long after quitting finasteride should I expect hormone levels to return to normal? I am not a doctor but most people say one month. When I gave up it took 4 weeks to feel 100%. How long after quitting finasteride should I expect the (potential) psychological symptoms to subside? Same answer as above I would think, assuming there is no secondary issues (e.g other factors like work related stress). How long after quitting finasteride should I expect hair loss? After prolonged use I think most people would say '4 to 6 months'. Assuming that I do notice a disappearance in symptoms, and decide to get back on finasteride at a lower dosage: What is the lowest dosage that has been proven successful for long-term hairloss? I saw an amazing result posted by Dr Bill Parsley. http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/168490-dr-parsley-results-1-4-tab-propecia-0-25mg-daily.html 4,312 FUT grafts (7,676 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2013 1,145 FUE grafts (3,152 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2018 763 FUE grafts (2,094 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - January 2020 Proscar 1.25mg every 3rd day
