Senior Member MAGNUMpi Posted October 14, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted October 14, 2012 A question about white hair. I have some white/gray hair in the front/sides but my recipient area is much darker. How do doctors deal with that? Anyone have any experience? Thanks, Magnum
Senior Member gillenator Posted October 16, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted October 16, 2012 All hair eventually loses its color pigmentation based on a genetic timeclock. So generally speaking, doctors in most strip cases take the donor strip from the back occipital region and for most patients, it's also where they have the least amount of greying going on. Strip has limitations on where a potential strip specimen can be safely harvested. With FUE, the doctor can cherry pick which grafts can be extracted and it also opens up more available areas of donor to choose from. As you age and continue to lose pigmentation (color) to your hair throughout your scalp, the timeclock should balance out things anywhere you have hair growing. Senior Member MAGNUMpi Posted October 19, 2012 Author Senior Member Share Posted October 19, 2012 Thanks gillenator, Good to know. I might be heading in the direction of FUE anyway to avoid a scar. Nice to hear the color issue might be better handled with FUE also. M.
