Proscar/ Regaine use and hair transplants

Hi Folks,

Hopefully I am posting in the correct forum but if not the moderators might be so kind as to move my post to an alternative forum.

Over the past year in particular my hair has being thinning out considerably. I have gone bald around the temples and my hair has thinned out considerably at the front and to a lesser extent on the crown of my head.

Within the past 5 to 6 weeks I have started using Regaine Extra Strength and Finasteride 1.25 mg daily. In the last few weeks in particular I have shed a considerable amount of hair which I believe is a good sign in the early stages and shows that the afore mentioned products are working effectively as they should.

After carrying out some research I am considering but having finalised a hair transplant in a Eastern European Clinc (such treatments in my home country is away too expensive for me to afford) which would be approximately 7 months from now (I cannot get an appropriate amount of time off work before then that fits in with a free slot that the Clinic would have). I have done some research on the Clinic and the reports would all seem to suggest that it is a reputable establishment. I can provide the name of the Clinic if need be and if the site moderators allow such?

I have being in touch via email with their Clinic and on the phone with their representaitve here in Ireland. They have diagnosed my hair loss as Level III on the Norwood Scale and advised that I would need approx 2,500 grafts by FUT method.

My primary concern is that if I continue to use the Proscar and Regaine and see considerable hair growth between now and the surgery that a hair transplant would not be a good idea. Not least because there may not be a need for such a large scaled hair transplant following the regrowth but also because I am apprehensive that the transplanted hair may cause me to loose a considerable amount of existing hair nearby due to shock and I may end up in a worse position than ever a few months following on from the treatment.

I have raised this concern with the Clinic and they have told me that there is no reason to cease using the Proscar and/ or Regaine between now and the surgery.

I suppose the reason of my post is to get a second opinion on this concern. I just want to establish if the Clinics advise is duff before I go ahead and finalise booking with them. If anyone could provide me with advise in this regard I would be most appreciative. Although I am learning considerably about the various products and treatments available to treat MPB I am not so familiar with the specifics of hair transplant procedures and hence the reason for my concern.

Aditionally I would also like to ask for how long would the scar remain noticeable following on from the surgery. I work in a job where I would rather avoid people knowing I had such surgery done. I would like to plan ahead and figure out how much time I may need to take of work.

Are there any good ways of concealing the scar in the early stages apart from wearing a hat/ wig etc?
