Staple Removal - Risk of Infection

Recommended Posts

When 80 to 100 staples are removed, they leave behind 160 to 200 slightly bloodied holes where they once occupied !

Is there not a risk of infection with so many partially open tiny wounds ( albeat very small ) ?

Should you apply anything after staple removal ? eg anti-septic cream or just wash and let them clot naturally ?

We apply an antibiotic ointment after for couple of days but not sure if its necessary. I know other clinics don't apply anything and their patients do alright.

Yeah, like Janna said, it's not something that all clinics that use staples require. We don't but if you want you can go to your local drugstore and get a tube of Polysporin or something similar and just dab it on the donor incision line, just enough to cover above and below for the staples points, for a few days. You'll be fine either way though.
