Can any transplant doctor be associated to some of the following - International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons (ISHRS, USA),

European Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ESHRS, Paris, France), The Royal Society of Medicine, (London , UK)....the list seems to go on. Are these worthwhile credentials (ie do the hold any merit and prevent charltans from joining)or are they just CV fillers to make the doctor look good.

Thanks

Miller,

Each organization does have a purpose. In fact, I believe it's a good idea for physicians dedicated to state of the art hair restoration to become a member of the ISHRS (International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery). The ISHRS is an organization for doctors ran by doctors to continue their education and share ideas. ISHRS members can benefit from the annual scientific meetings, hosted workshops, newsletters, and exchanging ideas with other leading physicians.

That said, the only real requirements to join these organizations are a PHD and payment of the membership fee. Thus, it's better to look at these as ongoing education organizations rather than actual "credentials". The only credential based hair restoration organization ran by physicians is the ABHRS (American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery). Members of the ABHRS have to take and pass a rigorous exam in order to become "diplomates". What significance this really has however, is debatable since some of their physician members don't meet our patient driven community's standards for recommendation. Of course, some of them do. Likewise, there are excellent hair transplant surgeons who are not ABHRS certified.

At the Hair Transplant Network, we prescreen surgeons and only recommend those with a proven consistency in producing excellent results. To see our demanding standards for recommendation, click here. To see a list of surgeons we recommend, click here.

Thus, if you are looking for a quality physician, I strongly encourage you to research this community, look at dozens of results from physicians your interested in, and consult with them.

Best wishes,

Bill
