Incision Questions

Hello...

Got a couple of questions about incisions in FUT cases,

  1. Do the surgeons, keeping the possibility of future procedures in mind, always make the first HT incision at the top most possible 'bald resistant' spot? In case someone has to undergo 3 HTs, do the incisions progressively get to lower levels on the back of the head starting from the top with each procedure?
  2. Lets say someone requires only about 300 grafts to fix a bald spot and he chooses to go with FUT. Will the incisions still me made like a big smiley ear to ear? And, if that's true, does the patient lose invaluable grafts?

Thanks!

To answer your first question: The surgeon should always try to only leave one scar..the strip will always be taken in the donor safe area..NOT at the highest point..NO they do not start high and go low..they will always try to excise the old scar and create one new one!

Second question: No..300 grafts will only be a small area!! The surgeon should never waste gratis!! However, if you only need 300 grafts they would probably recommend FUE as opposed to Strip(FUT) surgery anyways..
