Regular Member standbyme Posted September 13, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted September 13, 2011 I have an island of hair either side of the receeding bit. This hair is thinning and it never seems to grow long. If I had a HT does the surgeon transplant hairs around these thinning hairs? Because when the new donor hair starts growing you'll still be left with these thinning shorter hairs around it? thanks.
Senior Member RCWest Posted September 13, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted September 13, 2011 Have you tried Finasteride? If those are miniaturized hairs then Finasteride could very well save them. Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily Avodart 0.5 mg. daily Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily 5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily Biotin 1000 mcg daily Multi Vitamin daily Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1? Regular Member standbyme Posted September 15, 2011 Author Regular Member Share Posted September 15, 2011 I believe fin can thicken existing hair and help prevent further loss. As for side effects, some experience them others dont. From what I understand if you stop taking fin the hair that you might have gained or saved whilst taking fin will fall out. I'm sure there are many posts on here about Propecia, like everything do a bit of research before you decide.
Senior Member mattj Posted September 15, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted September 15, 2011 As spex said, it's probably miniaturizing and the doctor would probably work on the assumption that it will soon be gone. In fact, surgery might cause it to be lost if grafts are planted around it. (Shockloss). It really depends on how dense the area is. If it's very thin then your procedure would bulk up the area enough with grafts that you might not even miss the hair once it's gone, and won't need to consider having further work done to replace it. That you're thinking about these things and asking questions is a sign that you're approaching surgery in a smart way, but it's possible that this won't really matter in the end. Bottom line is it's impossible to know for sure without seeing you or your photos, and this is something you should talk about during consultations with doctors.
