Regular Member limitlesshair Posted June 14, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted June 14, 2011 can anyone explain why nape thinning occurs in some males? is this some part of male pattern baldness or is related to lack of nurients, stress, illness? or is it completly normal for this to happen? Senior Member T.C Posted June 14, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted June 14, 2011 Think it is part of normal MPB but not 100 % and I would imagine if you have loss is in the vertex you could be susceptible to it than someone without vertex loss. Its the same with temple point thinning, someone with high NW could have better temple points than someone with a lower NW.Its all in the genes I think. Regular Member limitlesshair Posted June 15, 2011 Author Regular Member Share Posted June 15, 2011 I don't think the loss is in the verex but the bottom of the head near the neck where there is a line just like your hairline, it's less density of hair at the back, is this MPB? Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted June 15, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted June 15, 2011 Nape hair, in my opinion, is a bit of a grey area. With normal androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness) there are general areas that are affected by hair loss and visible patterns/scales of baldness. However, at the root of the hair loss is a hormone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), that's responsible for the recession and affects susceptible hair. Although nape hair may not constitute an area that falls into a Norwood balding pattern, the hairs are susceptible to DHT and therefore should be able to feel the effect of genetic hair loss at some comparable level to other hairs outside the universal donor region. Senior Member mattj Posted June 15, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted June 15, 2011 It's basically just an additional way that a man can lose hair, usually in conjunction with the most advanced Norwood stages. I think it's fair to say that it effects a smaller proportion of men with MPB, with even many NW6 and NW7s not exhibiting loss in this area. I am a patient and representative of Dr Rahal.
