General Advice/West Regent Street Clinic Reviews

Backdrop

I'm a 23 year old guy and have started getting a receeding hairline along with thinning hair generally all over the top but more noticeable in the crown area of my head. Its not like I'm bald or anything but wouldn't mind sorting it out.

Anyway,

I'm considering getting Hair Transplant by the form of follicular mini grafting. However, I am struggling to find reviews on the only place in Scotland that seems to do it. Their own website I take everything with a pinch of salt as they are obviously trying to sell themselves.

However, a few things in their FAQ seem a bit off. This bit in particular as I have always assumed that scarring is just one of the things you have to accept.

q. Is there a possibility of scarring?

A. There is no possibility. This idea is simply scaremongering by company's who only provide Hair Replacement Products and has no foundation.

The original hair transplant was was a technique called punch grafting. It was successful but not as totally natural looking as follicular mini grafting which was introduced by our surgeon Dr. Michael May almost 20 years ago.

In the seventies and early eighties, punch grafting was practised world-wide and a small number of patients had unsatisfactory results due to

(a) being accepted for treatment when they were not suitable

(b) being treated by an unskilled practitioner

© treatment was not as strictly regulated as it is today.

Now every aspect is considered before you will be accepted. During your initial free consultation your suitability will be assessed. A prognosis will then be given of your expectations and the cost of the procedure and we will then arrange a

private consultation with our surgeon. Your complete satisfaction is paramount to us as it has been since 1976.

Has anyone used this clinic or know anything about it?

I think I'm going to go along for a free consultation as theres no harm done in that and keep my options open. I will keep an open mind. I haven't taken any meds or anything as I would just like a permanent fix. Its not something I will get impatient with and I will give it the time to kick in for a couple of years or whatever it is it takes to fully do.

Can anyone give me any pointers or anything or a rough idea of cost in GBP. Are we talking about 3k ballpark figure.

Any help/advice appreciated. I know that location shouldn't be the determining factor in where you get this done but it is an important factor for me.

leon99,

In my opinion, based on your age and what little can be seen in your photos, you are not currently a candidate for hair transplant surgery, As donald has already suggested, you should talk to your doctor about Propecia (finasteride) and Rogaine (minoxidil). Your best course of action at this point is to medically stabilize your hair loss.

There is no such thing as scarless surgery. Any time incisions are made in the skin it will results in a scar. The only variable is the size/visibility of the scar. Follicular unite transplantation (FUT) results in a telltale linear scar across the back of the patient's head while follicular unit extraction (FUE) results in thousands of very tiny dot-like scars that can be virtually invisible under the right conditions. The various other pros and cons of these two procedures are much too numerous to mention here. I suggest you begin by reading the information in the links provided and then use this forum's search feature to learn more.

The decision to undergo hair restoration surgery should not be taken lightly. We recommend that you spend a considerable amount of time carefully researching procedures and clinics. We also stress that cost and proximity should never be deciding factors when choosing a surgeon.

For more on quality physicians, consult our list of prescreened hair restoration physicians. You can then schedule a free online consultation.

Best of luck!

That definitely seems dodgy. Like the others said, you'll probably want to wait due to your age. If you do eventually go for a ht, you might want to consider traveling. Good instincts on questioning that website.
