Regular Member Judge Holden Posted May 28, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted May 28, 2009 Is there ever a point where Propecia/Proscar will stop working if it has been effective in stopping your hair loss thus far?
Bill - Seemiller
Judge Holden, The benefits of Propecia should continue but may appear to lessen over time as the natural progression of male pattern baldness continues. Some would say that if we were alive long enough, everyone inflicted by androgenetic alopecia would progress to a level norwood 7. Propecia works by delaying the process, either marginally or significantly. In other words, some may take Propecia their whole life without losing any additional hair while others' hair loss will slowly continue but not as rapidly as if they were taking Propecia. Since Propecia is far better at slowing down or stopping existing loss rather than growing new hair, it's hard to know for sure whether it's working for you. Most patients on Propecia however, will preserve more of their natural hair over time than those not on it. I hope this helps. Best wishes, Bill
