wasim123
Hi, I recently had a FUT procedure done for 2000 grafts. I resumed smoking a day after the procedure but stuck to just one cigarette a day. even before the procedure, it was just one a day. Is this harmful for the transplanted grafts? Please advise. Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted October 6, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted October 6, 2010 Wasim123, I've heard that ingredients in cigarettes are both irritating to newly growing grafts and reduce blood flow to the scalp (which helps nurture newly implanted follicular units). I'm not sure if this information is 100% accurate, but it would probably be best to cease smoking during the healing phase. This may be an issue worth discussing with your hair transplant surgeon, and with your primary care physician if you'd like to quit in general. Emanon
Hair growth is dependent on blood circulation, and smoking reduces the oxygen in the blood, so it can increase hair loss.
